Overrated recruiting?

A friend of mine always talk about how he think it’s overrated, because we can end up getting kids we couldn’t get out of high school.
Yeah but portal is more expensive than landing the kid initially. A mid DT enters the portal and is gonna get 500k. Whereas if he stays at his school it’s prob 250k. Just guessing but D$ has alluded to this.

HS recruiting is the critical baseline. Portal is crucial to fill the gaps or add difference makers at select positions. Not feasible to build an entire team through the portal.

% of roster from transfers at top teams is obviously increasing but we're nowhere near "abandon HS recruiting" territory. Much closer to that in basketball.

tf ... we have the 10th best class with only 13 commits ... we're in the running for another five star ... op is a prisoner of the moment?

Not overrated but the calculus has changed and the strategy will inevitably change as well. Coaches now have to be thinking if this is a guy who can't get on the field right away there's a good chance they'll just leave before they do, especially if they were a highly rated recruit. And then there's the $$.

Do you guys think recruiting is overrated? Especially if players we went after went somewhere else and then they hit portal the next season anyways.
We see you, Big Mike. (PAUSE)

Depends who you get. The ones who we recruited that have to transfer 99% of the time we dodged a bad eval that they took. I mean it’s that simple
