Overrated and underrated past Cane teams

For underrated I’d say 1990. That was really the best team in the country. TBH, with Colorado basically having three losses and a tie (fifth down vs Mizzou and bogus clip call vs Notre Dame) and GT facing a weak ACC and only winning the Citrus Bowl, I think they should have been national champs.

Another underrated team is 1981. They faced a terrific scedule.

Some seasons I find to be overrated include 1985, 1992 and 2003. 1985’s main achievement was a rout of a Gerry Faust team. 1992 wasn’t that good even in the regular season. 2003 was mostly living off the rep of the 00-02 teams.

However, none of them are even close to as overrated as 2017.

Yeah, but the main thing people remember about that year is 58-7.

They lost to Florida, in addition to the Sugar Bowl fiasco.
That’s the juicer storyline. Notes Dame isn’t supposed to lose like that. Then their AD comes out crying that we were trying to embarrass them, when we were playing with our second and third team. It fed into the we were thugs narrative.

Underrated - 03 team was qb away from winning the chip. Don't think lsu, ou, or usc could of ****ed with that defense

Overrated - either the 09, 13 or 17 teams.. Had everyone juiced until they showed us what they were really about

the 1999 team could have easily went 11-1 ended 8-4
Most glaring example of what a QB can do for you

1999 team started 5-4 with Kenny Kelly as a starter. Average score in those games was 28 to 22.
1999 team ended 4-0 with Ken Dorsey as a starter. Average score in those games was 46 to 7.

Ken Dorsey took a 5-4 team and proceeded to go 39-2 as a starter.

That was largely because the scedule got easier. And if you were to make a list of overrated Canes players, Ken Dorsey would probably be #1. There’s a reason why he went in the 7th round.

Dorsey was a so-so QB surrounded by a whole lot of Oline, RB and wide receiver talent. IDK why people don’t realize that.

If we had a truly great QB from 00-02, we would have gone undefeated and won the title all 3 years. The Washington loss never happens, so Bowden never cheats his way into the NC game. Nobody ever hears of Terry Porter after 2002. And, frankly, we don’t even have close calls like BC in 2001 and FSU in 2002. (Both of which we’re close because Dorsey had a bad day.)

Just curious as to why you think Dorsey was overrated

Please show me a truly great QB then. Going by your metrics there hasn’t ever been a great QB in the history of college football

Good lord. Tim Tebow or Matt Leinart would have cruised to 3 straight undefeated titles if they were surrounded by the talent that Dorsey was. Even Jim Kelly or Steve Walsh would have won 3 titles, if you want to talk about Cane QBs.

God. I know things are getting really ridiculous when people are arguing that Dorsey is an all time great QB. News alert: All time great college QBs don’t get drafted in round 7.

Frankly,Dorsey isn’t even the best Canes QB this millennium, since Kaaya was better than Dorsey.

Kaaya actually had higher Yards per attempt than Dorsey, playing with far less surrounding talent.

NFL success has nothing to do with value as a college player. Charlie Ward won a Heisman and nobody in the league wanted him. Still a great college player.

This has to be one of the dumbest things ever posted here. All I can say to you is that you don’t know football. Like at all. Retire
