I was a Butch Davis guy. I felt Mark Richt underachieved at UGA but then i found out from people there was two sides to that story. Still, as a recovering Golden slurper (yes i said it) a guy who tried to give Golden the benefit until he pulled his Penn State sneak move, i feel conflicted about trusting any coach. That being said, a LARGE part of our problem is not only the culture golden left behind but the fact our players are overhyped by the fan base. Kaaya is clearly lacks the ability to process things fast. Moreover, Golden and Coley hyped him up similar to how Golden and Fisch hyped up Preston Dewey but one has to wonder why USC and UCLA werent on Kaaya really hard throughout, they had coaches who were good at picking out offensive talent. At OL, our talent is garbage. Golden was desperate to save his 2015 class so he told everyone he its was a great year for lineman in florida. Darling needs to move to inside before he gets Kaaya crippled, McDermott and Linder are ok. Other than St. Louis, there is no one on that line who belongs playing at UM next year (isodora graduates) At wr, i think Coley is an NFL talent and AR needs an offseason of S & C before he starts to really make that huge impact. Mullins has the talent but Malcolm Lewis, Berrios, etc would never play for Richt at UGA. Cager and Berrios are two guys who if they played as well as they tweet or talk would be all americans but i just dont see them as UM WR's. Berrios in particular is constantly dropping passes because he has to showboat by jumping or diving everytime the ball is thrown to him. Tight end is a position i believe we have talent. Njoku is a little overrated but he still makes plays. Herndon has done nothing but improve. Dobard is not a UM caliber player.
Now the reason i touched on this is because i have seen the cagers, jasir jones, trayone grays, etc come in overhyped by golden salesmenship. However, our offense is full of kids Richt clearly doesnt trust. On defense we have done well but who are the standouts besides Corn Elder? Joe jackson, Jaquan, the three fresh LB's, along with a few upperclassmen that were highly regarded. For example, Chad Thomas is a kid who UGA would take. Still, you notice the heart and fight of the freshman. we are getting crushed and shaq and pickney are still fighting.
A serious question is how many of these kids we have on offense did Richt recruit at UGA? Aside from AR and Coley, who are the miami caliber explosive athletes?
Quite frankly, im so burned out from this program, I will not be tricked again into believing we have the right guy. However, I remember everyone wanting Butch out because his offense was behind his defense (to this day, I think Coker sucked as an OC) but he got his kids in, developed them, and made it work. I got hammered early on but if this 17 class builds depth on top of our 16' kids, we can compete for BCS in 2018 but like i said, i feel like im in an abusive relationship at this point and it might never turn the corner.
