Our DL will look like a true OG Cane line for the first time since 2003

Hopefully so. We've had good pass rushers for a while now. I'm not pessimistic about the DL I'm just waiting on them to show me against reasonable competition. This is a passing game these days but nothing hurts more than when a team can run all over you and you're helpless.

Do you guys think play-by-play commentators are gonna get tripped up trying to switch back and forth between saying “Roche” and “Rousseau”?

Could be a problem.

None of our DTs put up big numbers last season, yet we finished #17 in rush yards/gm, #11 in yards/rush, #13 in total yards/gm & #18 against the pass.

In 2015 we finished 101st against the run, and our DTs put up better numbers than last year's group.

My point is that it doesn't really matter much how many numbers our DTs put on paper. They're doing their job containing the opposing team's offenses.
Pretty much. How historically in the, 4-3 type of defense. The head coaches and front office mangers had the thinking that. The strong side defensive ends were known more for helping stop the running backs, which is where the tight end used to be known to usually set up during the games.. Jon Ford was showing signs during the summer practices to be a major player before he suffered a injury himself. Nesta Silvera suffered injury setbacks as well as he was entering his first season with Miami.

Also given the impact R.J. McIntosh and Kendrick Norton has during their days with Miami, during both of their last seasons on Miami's roster should be a sign, I would use. When it goes to guessing how the 2020 defense will perform. As McIntosh never had the same praise as both Ford and Silvera. And Norton was recruited as a offensive or defensive lineman, depending on the team who was trying to have Norton join their roster. Coaches and their schemes matter, but the players own ability & work ethic matters just as much.

But Lawrence Taylor who played the position of linebacker is known to the average fan as the overall best defensive player in the entire history of the nfl.. I assume that if I were to bring up L.T. to most fans where I live nowadays, they would bring up the amount of sacks he recorded during his playing career. At the same time though; Bill Parcells and Bill Belichick are known as two of the best head coaches in the history of the game - especially when putting together all time great defenses. Same with Bill Walsh and his coaching tree; Mike Holgrem to Andy Reid, and Tony Dungy who was the head coach that put together the Buccaneers teams; Whose defense was top 5 to top 10 statistically for enough seasons that, Jon Gruden likes to hype himself up as a great coach for beating the Raiders in their super bowl match up. But a logical team knew the Raiders were not going to throw away the offense that still had Rich Gannon. Which given the rules at the time, and that whole tuck quarterback fiasco - which benefited the opponent. The referees are still human akin to the complaints mlb umpires receive over the strike zone, every new season.

Reggie White was known for lining up on the strong side of the offense & given his own athleticism; He was known for just using just one of his arms to push the offensive players aside.. But Bruce Smith who played on a team that was still able to be play well enough to make - four consecutive chances at a super bowl win; If a fan just goes by a stat line; The statistician without ever seeing their resume during the actual games, would assume Bruce Smith is the best "pass rusher" in the history of the nfl.

2 deep DL from '01.

Y'all have to realize how delusional you are to compare our potential 2020 D-Line to one of our championship caliber D-Lines.

You guys really think we have the best D-Line in the ACC? I think Clemsons national championship D-Line might be A LITTLE better.

Our Defensive tackles get absolutely no penetration. Even tho we rotate like 34 tackles in, none of them make any impact.

Along with the tackles, the ends have no technique besides a bullrush. That's enough to get Rousseau some stats, except when teams go spread/up-tempo and he becomes a ghost.

Even in the past few years with Norton, McIntosh, and Willis, when we played REAL teams, they absolutely ran our guys over.

Not to mention our D-Line practices against our terrible O-Line.

As long as Mannys Gimmick defense is being ran, expect the same results.

Ford, Silviera and Miller all shined at times throughout the year. Call me an optimist, but I really like their potential for 2020 and think they can make a formidable 3 man rotation.
Silvera & Miller are still developing... Ford shows flashes. Unfortunately if they have any success next year they all jump to an agent.

Have to wait and see how they develop.line was decent last season now we will see if they can take the next step.

Seriously, this is the best overall the DL will look in over a decade and a half and will be IMO the best pass rushing DE's we've had since 91' & 92'.

EVERYONE on D will benefit from the threat of GR & Roche. Our DT's will definitely owe those two some steak dinners on them for all of the low hanging fruit coming their way.

If we are lucky enough to make it to the ACCCHGM, I expect to get worked over by Clemson again, but the only thing that gives me a tiny sliver of hope is the constant pressure that we would put on Sunshine. And, I believe the Tigers lose some top performers on their OL. Meanwhile, back on planet earth...

Look, it'll just be fun to watch a Cane DL dominate week after week! I think we all deserve it after the crap we've had to endure for the better part of 2 decades.
Can we first learn to defend 3rd and long?

No sir, coach stroud teaches his d-tackles to be run stoppers first and set the table, he using his d-ends to flush everything else out. We should be even better against the run come next season if we healthy! When simpson came in, our run defense improved, with coach stroud, its gotten better. Keep in mind both ford and nesta were coming off injuries which is why i thought nesta should have redshirted last year. We're in real good hands with coach stroud!

With our schedule, luck shouldn't even be a consideration to get to ACC championship game.

That said, let's hope our DL gets back to dominant DT play. Everyone knows we normally have a nice DE rotation...with no veterans at linebacker, we will need to shore up the middle.

We need our DT’s to take the next step. If they do that then holy sh** we fuc**** . It will for sure help our corners and I think the improved speed at LB will only help us despite lack of experience outside of McCloud
