OTH Podcast: DJ and Romberg calling out our leaders

Yeah for all Romberg's bravado, Ohio State didn't have too much trouble pushing his *** around.

Yeah, they went hard at each other in practice and in most cases the people on Saturdays were joke, until they weren't.

LOL right! So people sign up to play a sport where the end goal is to win a championship but for some unknown reason our players dont have the same goal in mind. We can agree to disagree but you sound like another "internet guru" who has no real time in these scenarios so you spew garbage but guys that actually played know whats up. DIDNT TATE WIN A CHAMPIONSHIP IN HIGH SCHOOL??
A lot of kids sign up to play a sport to get into a good college and make a better life for themselves afterwards. This is why when we recruit we push the value of a UM degree so hard. If they happen to win a championship, then that's the cherry on top. It's shocking, I know, but even at Clemson and Alabama most kids aren't going to play a down in the NFL.

And for the record, you're also an "internet guru" unless you're actually currently playing for the Hurricanes and setting the example that there will be no seconds off work. This is just so cringy.

WRONG! Most KIDS who sign up to play sports will not play in or past high school. You played for the team that gave participation trophies huh??? I know your kind but cant relate to you. Who is the "WE" you are referring to??? Do you work or play for UM??? NFL??? I dont even know what you talking about lil homie

This is your quote: "So people sign up to play a sport where the end goal is to win a championship..."

Seems like this latest post kinda contradicts that, no? Unless you're saying that these kids sign up for intramural sports purely to win an intramural championship, lol.

Nah you dont understand my jargon lil buddy. Point is where I'm from "dade county" we show up to "win"in football, track, baseball, basketball, chess, water polo, smashing girlfriends....why is this concept so hard to comprehend? Ricky Bobby said it best "If you ain't first, you're last."

This is something that has to change with our older alumni. It's getting tiresome that they haven't changed with the times, and in some cases are IGNORING things they did back in their day. Kids can review the playbook and do all that stuff now while on vacation. Ever heard of a tablet? Never mind the fact that guys like Lamar Thomas ADMITTED on tape that they went on spring break. In fact, LT actually pointed out that he would let girls hold his rings while on SB.

These young men will only get ONE shot to be college students, a week enjoying one of the most collegiate experiences open to them won't hurt them. As long as they are making sound decisions while on spring break, and coming back ready to grind, then a week won't matter. I would care more if they disappeared over the summer, that's where a lot of the major growth happens.

Some say old heads talking about the young ones not putting in enough work are not right or not up to date.records speak for themselves.team dj and romberg were on is considered the best all time won 1 nc.what has this group done nothing worth bragging about.

This whole thread makes me lol.

The older some of these Canes get, the harder they worked back in the day. Pretty soon they’re gonna start talking like the 1972 Dolphins.

Romberg ripping kids for going home for spring break while he’s on 790 constantly talking about how hard he’s partied in his life is pretty rich. How many straight days of drinking is ok and how many make you soft?

It’s a fine line between pushing kids to be great and starting to sound like Mercury Morris.

LoL, plus, I also like hearing from a California and a Canada kid who didn't fly home for spring break for 5 days and stayed in the Gables. Most of the kids on this roster work their asses off, go to class, do homework, lift, workout, practice. Perhaps we recruited kids who are not Miami level talent. That being said we lost games last year because our coaching staff on the offensive side was the worst in the Power 5. They coached a team that should have won 11 win team to 7 wins with the talent on roster.

By all accounts and I'm factoring in Dan Enos who came over from Alabama that our kids on his side of the ball, they came in prepared and ready to go. Enos has a lot to change because of the abortion of coaching they got from the last staff.

Was Romberg part of that 2002 OL that got thoroughly outworked and manhandled by Ohio Taint?

That team had no business losing to anyone and should have won that Fiesta Bowl game by 21. But they were too busy partying and drinking their own bath water prior to the bowl game. Then, an Ohio Taint team with nowhere near the talent outhustled them all night.

It’s good to yap about what you did back in the day. But it keep it all the way honest. That way you can teach from the mistakes you made (i.e., getting outworked by Ohio Taint) instead of acting like you were perfect in your day.

Romberg was abused in that game. And barely had time for a cup of coffee in the NFL.

he spent like 6 years right? albeit he was never really good

Romberg played in 44 games, starting 18. He had a decent journeyman career, made some money, hopefully earned a pension.

Or, in other words, I was wrong.

Apologies to Mr. Romberg.

They were 7-6 last year. Bad coaching or not that’s unacceptable, the upperclassmen have to be leaders, but kids nowadays have other options so to them football is not life or death!!!
Yeah, wait til they find themselves at 22 or 23 without the NFL contract they thought was theirs.

Old warriors have a point. I couldn't believe Richt didn't take advantage of every possible practice opportunity before the bowl game. His college coach died to get a bowl game to get that extra practice time which Schnelly said was like an extra spring practice. I think that Richt set a standard which was too low if we want to reach the elite again.

Our kids back in the day used to sacrifice. They set the standard for hard work.

The new Miami Fan;
Mental breaks
Miami Legends = Old Heads
Family time

This is what happens when the new fans have never experienced winning anything. They think 7-6 is okay because they played hard. They think 7-6 players sometimes need mental breaks. They defend poor coaches and awful QBs because have never seen any better.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with what they said and nothing wrong with any former player making these comments. They are giving an honest opinion and from a place almost no one here could possibly understand.

They hurt some feelings....God...last thing we want is to hurt feelings.
Next all teams will get NC and ACC championship trophies because of "participation."

It will be part of "Green New Deal". Just like income for those who don't want to work.
