OT: Trevor Lawrence named starting QB for Clemson

I agree with a lot of what you said, but I don't really get this part. Unless Fromm gets injured or something crazy happens, there doesn't appear to be any reason why he would be benched for Fields.

Fields registered one carry for 3 yards vs Missouri last Saturday. Didn't even attempt a pass.
Ain't Fromm leading the NCAA completing like 82% or some astronomical BS like that?

UGA is winning games based on running the ball & Fromm hitting a Deep ball every so often.

Kirby said before the season started that he wasn't going to Redshirt Fields, which means he's going to play him all year. The talk around UGA from day 1 has been if Fromm slips up Fields gets the start, he has higher upside & a way better arm than Fromm.

Fromm hasn't had one game all season where he's completed more than 15 passes. UGA is dominating opponents with Defense, run game & one or two Deep ball big plays a game. Fields can do more as a passer than Fromm, eventually he'll overtake him.

Fromm is completing over 70% of his passes...Fields is definitely more mobile and will get more reps the next two weeks vs TN and Vandy to show what he can do, but I think Smart continues to play both.

Quarterback play is the difference between Clemson having a pretty good offense and Clemson having a great offense. No disrespect to Kelly Bryant, he did what he could but he's limited as a passer. Just like Jalen Hurts. You play the best guy at the position. Doesn't matter if you're a senior or a freshman.

freshmen sounds great until you play the big boys. imagine that kid against OSU or Bama? they will eat him up alive.

Lawrence can throw from different arm angles, and He can throw into NFL sized windows. One thing I noticed with Bryant when we played em' in the ACCCG, He started struggling when we brought pressure and went to tight man to man coverage.

Fromm hasn't impressed me much either. They don't really ask him to do much outside of the occasional deep ball when the opponent inevitably brings up safeties to help in run support. His numbers are inflated against bad teams. The one decent team they've played this year he completed 57%. He's not garbage by any means but if you put him on a team that relies on the quarterback to win games, you'd be disappointed. I'd put him in the Greg McElroy category. Decent QB on a team with a great running game and a lights out defense that doesn't require the QB to make plays to win.

No question between the two who has a better chance against an elite defense, which is what they'll face if they're on a collision course with UGA or Bama in the playoffs.
True. One of the few ways to beat an elite D is with a stud QB which is how Clemson beat Bama couple a years ago.

Fromm isn't good. With all of the WRs they've recruited, he's actually being asked to do so little. Mostly heavy run and ball control for them, with some deep shots from time to time. Fields would unlock their offense something serious if he's as advertised. Think that Fields limits the ceiling of this squad because their RBs aren't as good as Michel and Chubb were.

Feel bad for Bryant. Dude wasn't struggling that bad to get bench. He was completing 66% of his passes, but Lawrence is a legit talent though, so I see the reasoning, but the optics is kind of dirty with this move. And he's a Sr. too. They didn't even give him a chance to transfer out and start for another team. Dam that's effed up, but you roll the dice, and hope for the best.

That is the difference between a corch and a coach. Corches will allow the guys who aren't struggling to start. Coaches will play the best guy regardless of all other variables

This is what a lot of us (myself included) have been screaming about all all offseason, TF & Red QB's are starting all over the place.

Alan Bowman is 2nd in the nation in passing with 1,557yds 10TD's & 2INT's with a 72.1%cmp as a TF. He just beat #15 ranked OK St on the road going 35/46 397yds 2TD's with a 76%cmp & threw for 605yds vs Houston.

JT Daniels just lead USC to a comeback victory vs Wash st throwing 17/26 241yds 3TD's 0INT's with a 65%cmp.

Obviously, it's not ideal but people act as if it's impossible for young QB's to come in & win games. Both Bama & UGA have started TF QB's 2 seasons in a row. Hurts was 26-1 as a starter with 2 National championship appearances & Tua still took his job. And you can bet money Justin Fields will eventually start over Fromm this season.

Some of our fans were just so vehemently against starting a young QB because they were just too emotionally attached to Rosier because of the FSU game. It became this cult that felt Rosier is only QB that could ever win a game for Miami lol.

It ain't the 90's no more, these kids ain't sitting on the bench for 2-3 years waiting to play. Coaches have no choice but to get these young guys ready a lot faster than they ordinarily would, the game has evolved.

I doubt it.. Those 2 teams won despite who was at qb because of the rest of their teams. Malik Rosier would be 26-1 at Bama.
Fromm can atleast complete a 10 yd pass.

He is clearly better
Although they could probably win the ACC with Bryant at the helm, Lawrence is without a doubt a better QB and it aint even close. Agree about feeling a bit for Bryant, but that's the business. He will be fine. As someone said, the best players should play. Lawrence will end up being the best QB Dabo has ever signed, and I am a huge Deshaun Watson fan.

Lawrence is the best high school QB I have ever seen...it's not surprising that he has taken the starting job.

It's one thing to replace a Rosier type QB that can't get the job done, and Bryant, who IS getting the job done. Oh well, I hope Syracuse kills them.

We had our shot at Clemson without a real QB and totally crapped the bed. Now the task gets infinitely more challenging.

Vegas values Lawrence 7+ points over Bryant fwiw.
