OT Tom Herman wants out of Texas

HS politics? Can you elaborate?
Rumors I've heard are you're basically locked into taking a guy from X Y and Z schools every year, whether you need/want them or not, or they say they'll never send you a player again. That would be why Matt Campbell kicks their *** every year

Sheesh. Austin’s a tough job. My former colleague is an alum & very active in their alumni association. They have been absolutely jonesing for a Nat’l title since tasting one in like forever back in ‘06.

They expect immediate results. They don’t realize that Herman took over a Texas program from 2010-2016 that was an utter mess.

However; Tom Herman da gawd, was actually trending down at Houston prior to accepting the UT job. I think Texas pulled the trigger too quick. I was a Herman fan, but I must admit, I also didn’t pay attention to him except the memorable 2015 season and beating the mighty Semenholes in a NY6 bowl. The following yr, Houston took a step back, & UT pulled the trigger.

It’s starting to look like the one 13 win season in Houston was more fluke than reality. He’s 4-0 in bowl games, but his team is typically around 7-9 wins.

Edit: had hella typos in the original post. Lol. My fault. Liquor.
UT fans... think CIS posters x10.

I will say they have a point because they support arguably the "richest" program in NCAA. If you can't win with those resources, you are doing it wrong.

Most P5 coaches flop. Period. How many have long term success? I mean success like we want here or Longhorns fans want. Not Kirk Ferenz, win seven games a year and occasionally field a top 25 team at Iowa success. It’s just wash, rinse, repeat for 95% of the programs.

My prediction that Mullen is going to be at Texas next year is increasingly likely. No Cristobal, Meyer, and Herman wants out. In the era of coaches getting contract extensions even after losing to 1 win teams (Mario), it's extremely interesting that Mullens contract is coming up and he still hasn't re-upped with UF. His agent couldn't have played it better, Texas is going to make him a ludicrous offer and UF will have to counter. UF doesn't have the money to match but maybe they kick it up to 7 mil from 6 mil. Texas will go 10-12 mil I think. So comes down to how much he wants stay in Gainesville and if he's willing to take a big discount.
I'm more than okay with Mullen leaving UF. Gators lucked out in not getting Chip Kelly.

Also, LOL at the people that want him here. Guy couldn’t win with the most resources in college football and he’s supposed to win at cheapskate U?

Wanted him right before he took the job at UT. I admit, I called that one wrong. But yeah, he's not succeeding here. Only if brought in as an analyst/position coach.

I would have taken him at the time too. He had the Urban pedigree and some quality teams at Houston. Coaching hires are pretty much just a crap shoot

It was a great team with multiple NFL players on the roster. they just played out of their minds

Charlie Strong was trending up before He took the job. Face it, Texas kids are overrated, the HS politics are a headache (from what I've read), & the job's career suicide if you fail there.
I wouldn’t say Texas kids are overrated. In many ways it’s the same situation at Miami. The best Texas kids don’t go to UT at the most important positions most times

That story sounds like it was leaked by Urban Meyer, who wants the job and is likely twisting the knife in Herman's back.
I can promise you Urbby wants no part of that job. Dude gets paid just as much, works half the time, and is back with his family during the week living the baller life. He recently bought a house on the water, has his big *** boat, and 286 sun shining days a year on average.

why would he go to Austin?

Ikagine paying Dan Mullen 10 million a year to lose at least 2 games a year

Working at Texas is like working in a phone booth that is in the middle of crowded bar full of drunks

It's a joy free, thankless job unless you can win it all each and every year.
Schools like OSU, Bama, and Texas. Their expectations are championship or bust every year. Even when Bama was trash their fans were expecting them to win it all. Crazy.

You think he wants days off to just chill on the beach? hes still a recovering competition-aholic, and I doubt he’s a “I just want to enjoy the sunset” kind of guy
