OT: The Cost of Winning - St. Frances Academy

A guy with his wife's $500M recruits 5-6 states worth of players to make a super team and wonders why people don't want to play them?

You sound just like the Twitter haters that they showed in Episode 1. WAAAAAAH.

Those other Catholic schools can recruit too. Those other Catholic schools can offer opportunities to economically-disadvantaged kids too. I'm Catholic, that's supposed to be our mission in the world, to help the less fortunate.

Rather than going to help work in the student-athlete's community and set up programs there, he pulls them to the school he owns to try to win a fake national championship

Cut the crap. He doesn't own the school. The school has been around since 1828.

You are dopey. He has, quite literally, done work within the student-athletes' community and set up programs there. Most of the kids are locals. There are also kids from outside of Baltimore, but this isn't another motherfvcking IMG Academy.

Half of the team is from out of state that’s a fact period! Coach was asked to leave his job before this one cause he was moving kids into the district from out of state and housing them! Not all the teams in the league didn’t want to play them 2 said they would that’s a fact period! This is completely IMG academy 2.0 if your recruiting kids from Georgia if your recruiting kids from Chicago and your in Maryland that’s national recruiting same thing as img academy

I'm talking from inside knowledge of both Poggi at Gilman, Michigan, and St Frances as well as from college coaches involved with recruiting his players at both schools. You know what HBO told you? Stick to that.

You are full of crap.

IMG Academy has ZERO-POINT-ZERO local kids. They aren't "Bradenton kids plus some recruits".

And it doesn't matter if two (wow, TWO) teams wanted to play them, if the Association threatens to ban any schools that schedule St. Frances.

Look at you, you've been a sleeper cell on this board for nearly a year, but li'l ol' St. Frances Academy motivated you to post for the first time.

Oh, so you have inside knowledge that he "owns the school"? Look, a lie is a lie, even if you don't like the guy.

Some people don’t understand that he’s funding these kids with his wife’s money. They gave x to the school for housing both for the students and family. Most of the out of state kids are being brought in when they are in 8th grade they have elementary feeder schools and they set up the parents with housing and so forth it’s bull **** not all schools have a head coach willing to give x millions of dollars to fund his program. Oh and he has his pockets in a qb camp and 7 vs 7 tournaments in the youth ages to make contact with the kids dont let a scam artist fool you this guy doesn’t give a **** about the kids he just wants to pump his chest that he’s the best

I think you too "owns" a little too literally. If he gives $1M a year to the school he has full control. He left Gilman because they wouldn't let every single player he wanted in the school. So he goes to Michigan for a year, his players and assistants go over to St Frances, and he comes back to run the St Frances program. What was his job at Michigan? To "get things done financially"

And with all of that, he can't win the fake national championship that he's been chasing and will quit after he wins (if he ever can). He's a big time recruiter of 8th graders but that was even more at Gilman than St F. Gilman didn't like transfers, St F doesn't care so kids are now "committing to St Frances for my final two seasons." I've heard it's quite expensive to sign one of their kids, because they're used to getting jobs, money, private flights etc already

i have inside knowledge that yes him and his wife gave the money to the school! I have inside knowledge that when he’s approaching kids in 8th grade that are 250miles away that is the same as img academy! Listen I don’t have to explain why iam just posting now to you but I’ve coached against the guy at Gilman my brother coached against him at St Fran and at Gilman he’s been seen talking to kids as far as Hawaii! It’s funny when your sister in law and brother move to the other side of the world and 3 weeks after you start teaching and coaching there you see a familiar face talking to the next big arm on the island

Yea it’s crazy iam glad iam not coaching in that league anymore to busy with real life **** got 5 kids but I still coach just not for such a demanding team it’s literally a full time job

Stop being ridiculous. You used the word "own". Don't blame me for taking your words literally. Nobody knows what you "really intended to say".

If you had a situation where he was doing the bare minimum to keep his players eligible, where everything was focused on football success, and then he turned his back on his former players while they went back to the row houses in Baltimore to sell drugs, that would be one thing.

But St. Frances is taking the education seriously, they are preparing the kids for college, they are successfully getting kids into college at a far higher rate than the kids would have if they just stayed in the Balto public school system.

What are you mad about? That he succeeds? That he pays for a lot of it? Why should I care that a person with means ends up spending that money on providing education, growth, and opportunities to disadvantaged kids?

My girlfriend went to UMAB Law School, about a mile or so from St. Frances Academy. She volunteered in that community. I visited her many times when she was in law school there, I know what those communities are like. Most of the white population of Baltimore headed for the suburbs decades ago. I realize that Poggi is providing opportunities predominantly to kids with tremendous football ability, but he is doing SOMETHING. Those kids have a better chance with him than they would have had without him.

I'm fine with him spending his family wealth while those with even more money whine about Maryland state and local taxes and do nothing to help the City of Baltimore or the people of Baltimore.

Lol

Finally, the truth comes out. You coach against the guy.

When he was at Gilman there skippy and my brother voted to play them when he was at St Fran I don’t give a rates *** what you think is fair or not but when 1 **** coach and his wife found physically give the money more then 5million dollars so he can recruit all over the country that is bull**** like I said he’s recruiting kids on the big island
