OT: Tanking comes to college football

Unless a freshman is a total project it makes more sense to give him some playing time. Nothing motivates more than the prospect of getting into the game. When Clemson was rolling against FSU Dabo went deep into his third string. ****, the Canes lived by it. In games where we were way ahead we'd also play as many guys as we could. And in many instances they scored too. We live in times where if the ain't playin' now they're walkin'.

No, it doesn't get you draft picks, but it does let you redshirt the best players for the following year when the team will be (presumably) better.

Maybe Manny is just ahead of the curve...

Tanking.

Hmm.

That makes me think that we hired Manny Diaz in hopes that we’ll land Urban Meyer when we fire Diaz after the 2021 season. Do badly now so we can get a great coach later.

I can’t see a coach purposely tanking a season.

I can see not playing certain players who aren’t ready despite a need at his position. Or, to create eligibility separation. You used to see this with QBs.

Zack McCloud is doing this right, sort of. Assuming he returns next season he’ll give Miami a veteran at LB. Lorenzo also, although there is an injury factor to his situation.

Diaz did say he wasn't focused on this season and was building for the long run. That might explain why Nelson will stay at LT instead of potentially flipping with Scaife. He wants him to take his lumps now even though it will probably cost the team some Ws.

If this is accurate then Diaz should be fired yesterday. If you’re not obsessed with winning then GTFO of my program.

Tanking is an idea started by LOSER CORCHES who want you to think that their losing ways are actually smart in the long run

Newsflash: Losing is hard...actually trying to lose is incredibly stupid. Because NO ONE wants to play for a loser.

I think this kind of "tanking" is mostly wishful thinking and a mistake. This is not nearly the same situation as the Dolphins.

Please with the Dolphins on here - they're not tanking, they've FLAT LINED for the last 35 years or so. WORST FRONT OFFICE in SPORTS HISTORY (Dolphins have a dynasty in that category); they had freakin' Dan Marion and could only get him to one Super Bowl, and have done little or nothing since. I say they TANKED years ago, people just didn't notice. Let the Dolphins go the way of the Orange Bowl - in fact, I'd rather still have the OB than that shrine to medocrity of an organization.

Tampa Bay Bucs fans say ‘hello’

Diaz has NO CHOICE but to change this narrative. Diaz is full of chit, period.

I did this in NCAA14 with UM. I also moved corn elder to QB and ran read options and screens most of the game. Him and duke finished 1&2 in the heisman voting and both had 2000+ rushing yards.

Basically its just having a bunch of players do what McCloud did and voluntarily take a redshirt. Sounds like a crazy plan, but wouldn't you rather have Brooks getting burn and Pinckney or Quarterman redshirt (if they were eligible) so we would have several experienced LBs next year? Sure the first season will stink, but how much worse could it be right now?

We probably still have the same record. And if having a ton of depth boosts the chances of making it to the playoffs next year, could it be worth giving up year 1?
