Dabo wasn't really ready to take over Clemson and run up big numbers quickly - but Dabo was really smart.
He didn't take some pay raises - rather wanted the money available to get a really good OC and DC, and have even more of what could have been his - distributed among the position coaches.
He gave up HIS money to get good coaches.
We talk about being "Family" here, but Dabo put it all out there and proved they were family. And if anyone doubts the family attitude, the quality of the coaches, and thus their closeness - they're everything UM should be, claims to be, but isn't.
That's why I think Butch Davis would do the same thing. Forego a really big check for himself - only to make sure he could get top coordinators and position coaches.
It's such a simple concept - surround yourself with the best. If everyone wins, that means the HC wins as well.
