OT: Outside perspective on MIAMI

from an SEC school's board......... In a thread discussing signing day recruits and our expected signing of Christian Williams:

Calling Miami an inferior program is not a legitimate statement considering they have more national titles than us, more NFL Hall of Famers with more to come (8, tied with Bama btw), and UM is a private school ranked top 50. They’ve had a bad decade or so but they’ve been hammered by the NCAA.

Miami was once an elite program and has an opportunity to be one again, no shame in losing Williams. He’s a good player who went to a good program. Our recruiting class is still Top 10 and I don’t think after last year anyone thought that would be possible.

Just putting things into perspective

FWIW - many posters on this board agreed with this post.....

Spot on but sadly most SEC fans are toothless idiots who say Miami is thug U with crappy facilities. That will never go away as long as UM is winning and continues to recruit Dade.
 
Our national rep is otherworldly. Playing off another thread where there was a huge argument going on, we CAN pull from OOS without much effort or money because we do have that reputation. We still have the cache to turn heads in LV or NY or Cali or wherever.
Yeah, don't come @ me with we need to concentrate on SoFla first. I know that. But we have advantages OOS that register with the kids. We should still be able to do both at Da U with success.

I read their board and didn't see much complaining. They have that corner coming in and Williams would have to fight to be a nickel there. Here he's in the 2 deep

I hate that we lost the last two games to LSU, but I will give credit when credits due. They aren’t very good at **** talking so they are nicer and more humble then most $ec fanS.

I think that's a pretty fair and accurate representation of the outside view of our program. What they missed was the depth of cultural significance, intrigue and interest in Canes football. The Canes literally revolutionized college football in the 80s. No more 3 yards and a cloud of dust.

And here is a statistic they conveniently left out that is prima facie evidence of Miami's social relevance and importance among sports fans: Number of ESPN 30 for 30's - The U: 2 ...The SEC combined: 0 (I believe).

Let’s stop living in the past. Hopefully after 16 lousy years we can once again become an elite program.

We dominated football in a way that was never seen. We dominated both collegiately and professionally. Had ST and JB not had their lives cut from them so young, they would be in the HOF. We pumped out pro bowlers and legends. We pumped out transcending players.

And here’s the cold part ladies and gents....we did this since 83! We don’t have the pedigree of a ND who’s been around since the 1800’s. We don’t have the pedigree of a Michigan or Ohio State that’s been around since the 1800’s. We came in to existence in the early 20’s, didn’t become a real name until the 70’s.

Everything you said is true but sadly not relevant in a recruit’s mind.
See: There was a recruit last week who said he just found out we were a dominant program back in the day - that’s alarming but understandable I suppose.
Also: the guys who mention Sean Taylor being their “favorite play ever” - has proven to be irrelevant as well.
Sucks but it’s the truth.

Yes, agreed. What Jared Harrison-Hunte said last week about The U - all in past tense - was certainly sobering, but very understandable. There is a remedy to change the thought processes of the Hunte's of the world: Winning.

Definitely understandable for a kid like Hunte who grew up in NY I think . But any kid from sfla should still know about our past dominance even if they didn’t see it first hand all their coaches or parents did . uncles and aunties did
