OT: Mississippi State coaching search is a dumpster fire

Tough place to win big. They have to jump LSU, Bama, Auburn, and Texas A&M. Can see top coaches thinking wait for an opportunity with a more clear path to success.

I’d never even heard of Napier until I read the OP. He’s not considered some big name prospect.

And do you seriously think that Gene Chizik has a lot of head coaching options? He’s not even employed as a DC right now.

These aren’t guys who will be in contention for the Texas or USCw jobs next year, if that’s seriously what you’re thinking.

That is a ****** job, and they just fired a dude who went 14-12 in 2 years, 2 bowl games, and 2 wins over their rival. I don’t blame anyone for running from that nonsense.

Agreed. They had a physical presence on defense for a couple of seasons but now those guys are gone to the NFL. Everything looks bleak. The next guy is probably going to get hammered in the early going. Plus the rival school hired a superior recruiter.

Mississippi State's defensive decline from 2018 to 2019 is one the of most dramatic you'll ever see, from 4.13 yards per play (first in the nation) to 6.30 (107th in the nation).

how horrible does that job look.

Saban still at Bama
LSU Dominating
Jimbo at AM
OlMiss assembling a dream Team
Auburn is Auburn
Arkansas.. well ok
This. I mean that's just insane.

If you win the SEC West just once, they'll erect a statue for you.

Would take Chizik on this staff in a heartbeat if he wants to ease back into coaching for a season.

I can’t believe the Giants didn’t do some research before hiring Judge. I mean, he hasn’t even been a coordinator!

I think it's different in the NFL as there is no limit to on-field coaching staff.
You can mitigate risk somewhat.
