OT: Jedd getting the interim gig at UCLA

Supposedly chirps side has been leaking UF talks to get Ucla to hurry the F up. He wants to stay out west.

I think Chip Kelly about to pull up.

They could outspend Florida for him, put him back in the Pac-12.

Would be a solid hire.

They may not even need to outspend for him. He simply may not want to coach or live in the SEC. I really think if the Chipster shows no interest in the UCLA job then he's never going back to college. It's not perfect but it's probably the most tailor-made for him as USC probably isn't opening up anytime soon.

You think Kelly knew this all along?

I'm sure his agent was smart enough to see the possibility of it happening. Wouldn't be shocked if UCLA let him know that it was going to happen either.

He would have been crazy to take a job until the regular season ended either way. You never know what jobs are going to open up, especially when you're sitting around collecting $18M from the Niners doing nothing.

True story, but can't hurt to have a big time SEC school leveraged against that Under Armour money.

Hopefully this drives up the cost to roll the dice on Scott Frost too as he starts playing up his "west coast" roots in Oregon/Nebraska. Sucks to be you, UiF!!!

Them getting played makes me smile. Foley and Spurrier and Stricklin and their delusional fanbase will now have to settle for some SEC retread or an "up and comer".

I think Gators whif on kelly and frost which would be AMAZING. Just think of the tears.

UCLA is having their Miami moment in which they have decided to pay a $12 million buyout in order to get way more serious about football again. Mora really did well his first couple of years but completely wasted talent since. Not the same level of talent on the roster, but I guarantee with the right hire they can have a pretty quick turnaround despite losing Rosen

I’m literally bubbling with excitement of watching the gators possibly cry.

SEC style defenses are the answer to stopping Chip Kelly's offense and he knows that. Teams that are too big up front for his more athletic teams that he builds around stamina. He would be stupid to go to Gaynesville and try to compete with Saban and Smart every year.

If the money is decently close I'd go to UCLA and recruit LA and compete against the conference that has no stout defenses and honestly most teams offenses are underwhelming as well.

If they're throwing out that money to get rid of Mora, they're ready to spend on a real coach.

Hypothetical:

UCLA goes for Chip. Nebraska hands the keys to the state to Frost. UF has to go for Mullen. UT swings and misses on Fuente. And goes after...Butch Davis.

You mean:
Miami style defenses

only some Miami fans are enamoured with Butch at this point, as great as he was and despite the good job this year. I’ve not seen butch on one list for any of the openings out there.

He's basically recreating the Oregon situation if he lands the UCLA gig - only now he doesn't have to convince those LA kids to move to Eugene.

The problem with the Gators is that they are believing their own bullsh*t. That job is not all that they think it is. Urban Meyer **** near had a stroke dealing with their boosters and alumni base and that's after he won two championships and brought that program to new heights. Now, they fired a coach after two and a half seasons after he won his division in his first two seasons. Don't believe the death threats BS, if McElwain was undefeated, he could say he was a member of ISIS and he would still be retained. Kelly doesn't want all that drama after his issues in the NFL. He wants to go to a less-pressured job with enough fertile recruit grounds (like California) and build a program. I've always believed for that reason alone, Kelly would have been a better fit, and probably would choose, if given the option,, coaching at Miami than at Florida. He is a better fit in a big city with diversity.
