OT - Iggy to the Heat

It's an overpay for sure but it's only 1 guaranteed season and the trade netted significant cap space. Andre can help a team in the playoffs but his role should be limited to ~20MPG because of his age and lack of offensive skills.

As for Embiid he should remain an elite defensive C as he ages but his offensive impact will wane. Marc Gasol is a good trajectory comparison especially if Embiid improves his skill level. You need a lot of shooting to make him the offensive fulcrum of a team because he's so bad when he gets double teamed. I'd be comfortable giving him the max because at minimum he can anchor a defense, rebound and get you points at the FT line. But you have to be ok with load management.

Totally agree, it just sucks we didn't get Danilo. I really felt like that would have made the overall team better. Outside of the help on the cap situation this trade really didn't help with this years team. Defensively we're still a mess we can't stop anybody

Defense lately reminds me of the Kevin Loughery days. Looking for Glen Rice and Bimbo Coles..

do u watch basketball? What does Iggy bring? Ok he’s a 3 and elite D. Brings championship experience and has years of knowledge that will be bestowed to our young players!! Come on man.
agree on Danilo, surround Bam with shooters.

I would say do you watch basketball? Cause Iggy hasn't done much since being with the Heat. One foot already out of the league. Elite defender lol I think not

really needed gallo. Ah well
True but we also Need herro and Leonard back. Since the philly game where we blew them out Miami hasn’t been the same team. Plus butler has been in and out of the lineup since then with injuries/personal reasons absence for at least 5 to 6 games. We got issues of course right now but I dont Want to write them off just yet. either way, last night was concerning to me being up that much only to lose in the 4th

Leonard is not good and Herro will be very good but hit a rookie wall starting in December that continued through the all star break. Leonard and Herro aren't fixing our problems.

When Leonard was in the lineup Miami usually got out to fast starts, that doesn’t happen much anymore plus he provides spacing. Rather have him out there than to not.

Look at where Miami is struggling lately, closing games in the 4th, Tyler herro was clutch in that aspect and he can get hot at any point. I don’t think herro hit some rookie wall, he will have off games but just within the last 6 games or so he played he had 2 of his 4 best games in the season vs the magic going 6-10 from 3 with 25 points and then vs Washington going 7-9 from 3 with 27 points. He has highs and lows like any other player especially any other rookie. Regardless , Miami doesn’t look the same with them out and that’s clear. Just think about the spacing we are missing, **** herro can had playmaking as well. Clearly missing his scoring off the bench.

plus with butler being in and out of the lineup just before the all star break and now with the last 2 games doesn’t really help things either.

▪ There are myriad reasons for this ongoing 2-6 stretch: a road-heavy schedule, Jimmy Butler’s absence for four games, far too many defensive breakdowns and opponents shooting threes against the Heat at a much higher clip than earlier in the season.

But here’s another reason that should be in the top five: Not having Tyler Herro around to play the fourth quarter.

Herro — who has missed eight games with an ailment that Herro says is a foot problem but the team calls an ankle injury — was second on the team in fourth quarter minutes at the time of his injury, having played only seven minutes fewer than Bam Adebayo’s 399.

What’s more, Herro has been the Heat’s best shooter among wing players in the clutch, defined by the NBA as the final five minutes of games with a margin of five points or fewer.

Herro is shooting 52.2 percent overall in the clutch (12 for 23) and 53.3 percent (8 for 15) on clutch threes, both figures ranking very highly among NBA shooting guards. His 34 clutch points are third on the team, behind only Jimmy Butler’s 72 and Adebayo’s 59.

And with Herro on the court in the clutch, Miami has outscored teams by 14 points — the best plus/minus on the team among Heat players.

And consider this: Before Herro’s injury, Miami was 14-8 in games that included clutch minutes and a plus 3 in clutch minutes.

Since Herro’s injury absence starter, Miami is 0-3 and a minus 23 in the clutch and shot just 1 for 13 on clutch threes.

Overall, the rookie guard is averaging 13.1 points and 4.0 rebounds in 46 games.

So yes, the young man is missed. So is center Meyers Leonard, who has also missed these eight games with an ankle injury

I have eyes. Leonard is a replacement level player and not a difference maker, no one will convince me otherwise. It’s good that he bought into the culture and isn’t causing any problems. Herro still struggles on defense. He can get his own shot which is a plus but he gets targeted on defense like duncan does on PnR in 4th quarters. He is a clutch player, but look at his overall percentages in December/January - he was hit a rookie wall.

Not having Jimmy is a big issue but no excuse for letting the third worst team in the league dominate us in the fourth quarter. Not having jimmy and herro is not an excuse for not being able to score while 3 bigs and two rookies are on the court the last 5 minutes of the game

herro and Leonard aren’t the saviors for our road problems that we’ve been having all year

We needed Gallo to take us from a 4-5 seed in the East to a 2-3 seed with the ability to beat the Bucks, that’s all I said.

Herro has 11.5 PER, .535 TS% and grades as a horrendous defender. There's no question he's a huge negative when he's on the court regardless of small sample clutch stats. PIPM has him as by far the Heat's worst player - a huge negative on both ends. Playing him real minutes in the playoffs would be a huge mistake.

Heat are suffering from regression to the mean on defense. The janky zone was nice when opponents were bricking wide open 3s but that's no longer the case. Still I expect the defense to come around - with Crowder/Iguodala who are solid team defenders - albeit at the expense of the offense which will drop from ~6th in the league in PPP.

everybody banged up. Philly missing both Simmons and Embiid and Boston missing Kemba. Not having Herro or Meyers isn't an excuse. This team has gone backwards and worst since the trade. We just lost to Minnesota at home and Towns didn't even play.

We do 🤷🏾‍♂️. This is not mutually exclusive, defense needs to quit being *** and we are missing too many shots late in games

Herro and Leonard along with Duncan & Kelly are the worst defenders in our rotation. You got it tho

They ain’t the only one giving up stuff as of late, **** duncan was the best defender this game. He had about 3-4 charges and played well defensively. Either way we miss herro’s shooting especially in the 4 and we need another big. Everyone needs to step up defensively bam, butler etc included

Butler is like 1/16 on clutch shots in the last minute of games for the season.

That's a huge concern, albeit one that's shared by every East playoff team. Middleton and Tatum are probably the best bucket getters but they rely heavily on the stepback long 2 which is a low efficiency shot.
