OT: I need help people ( medical people especially )

1 how long ago
2 how deep were his cuts.
3 when did he seek care after the injury happened
4 is he in pain or itching and what cream did they give him
5 are his ha da swollen or red or both
6 are the wounds open oozing pus, blood or just clear fluid.
6 of its just itching and no pain I doubt it’s a bacteria
7 most flesh eating bacteria cause significant amount of pain and develop quickly in a matter of 48 hrs or less.
8 Go to the Er to make sure it is a a sever infection if he is in pain and the swelling or redness to his hands is severe and spreading to his wrist or forearms.
9 the itching really bad can be a form of dermatitis or a parasite like scabies.
10 if it’s been a few weeks and it got better with a cream then the cream was likely a steroid.
If it was a steroid and it cleared up it’s likely a skin allergy likely dermatitis or hand eczema.
regardless seek medical care immediately.

4. JUST PAIN NOT ITCHING, thought he said itching but he insists it is like tiny paper cuts and they feel like paper cuts as they get worse.
5 just red
6. Just blood
10. It was indeed just a steroid

I'll snap some pictures when I get to him, I'm being delayed at the moment and had to communicate through phone

I do doubt someone could scrape his hand and look at it and determine what it was that quickly like the VA germatologist did.

I may make jokes here - but the man had a serious question - and I gave him a serious answer. One that just works. No fluff, no complications, you can't overdose intravenously. Absolutely no downside.

You take too much orally, it also kills the flora in the gut - and you'll get a little case of the squirts - Tennessee Two-Step - Backdoor Trots - but you back off a bit the next oral dosage - and that clears right up.

Think for a second. All upside - no downside.

No criticism of you. I agree that big Pharmaceutical is corrupt and there are cheaper available options that get killed - probably some natural ones too. This just seems like a time is of the essence thing where he can’t play around anymore. I just want him to get treated.

I agree. He should see a physician if he hasn't already.

But to ensure recovery - at least he has another option to ensure a recovery.

I'm a firm believer in layered defenses. Layers that work.

Single shot pistols don't get it done in a shootout.

Likely hand eczema. That sht is super itchy.
see a dermatologist. Steroid creams are the treatment of choice. Doubt that a bacterial infection would be hanging around this long. A parasite would’ve spread elsewhere as would’ve a a bacterial or fungal infection.
Look up images for hand eczema.

There was NO itching he said, not sure if you read that wrong. But after googling that's definitely what it looked like in it's more worse stages. @pacusmc

Also, could it be possible that it is dormant like the one post suggested who had a patient that went into septic shock? Is it quite certain to you that it's most assuredly not a fungi/bacteria in that regard?

For the poster that asked when I'm taking him to the hospital, i'm looking to see which one is the best option now. Most likely going to be the mayo clinic since shands is the one that he has been to multiple times now for this and various other issues.. yet doesn't seem to think anything of it ( i guess? ).

You probably know this already but an infectious disease specialist is an MD who specialty is all manner of infectious disease, bacterial, fungal, viral, etc. pretty much every VA that I’ve ever known has at least one or more infectious disease specialist that they consult with.

Also insist on his medical information including any culture and sensitivity reports. In other words has pathogen been identified. But start with an infectious disease specialist.

I'm going to do this and do the dermatologist as well, just need to do my research first on who is good at this in north florida.

I thought I read that it was itching him so bad he put his hands in bleach.
Maybe whatever initial infection he had made him develop some sort of immune response and this the
Itching. I’m sure a dermatologist will look at it and give you an answer in 30 seconds and maybe request a skin biopsy if he doesn’t k ow or to confirm his diagnosis. There may still be an underlying infection of some sort but that would be rare. I’ve learned not to say the words never or impossible when dealing with medicine.

I thought he told me that too, but apparently I was wrong and it was actually pain that caused him to do that last year around june I would say.

If he can’t see a dermatologist in the next few days then take him to an ER or the va to get a script for the same or a stronger steroid cream at least it will help him out pending a dermatologist appointment. Most er’s have specialist on call that have to allow access for a quicker follow up

Dermatology is also a good place to start based on your info.

Better advice I can give you, or anyone, is to take charge of your healthcare, do your research, and stand your ground (politely) when you feel you’re not getting a standard of care.

Best advice I can give you is don’t trust medical advice from a football board.
