For years I ate my steak well done. Why? B/c many in the African American community thought it was disgusting to eat any pink in beef. Then I became older, switched up my friends to ones w/ a more sophisticated palate. I went out on a business dinner, one evening, and I ordered a ribeye well done. When I tell you that everyone stopped their conversation, just to look at me, I'm not exaggerating. Literally, they opened up their mouths just to say 'wtf are you doing young man??'
My boss at the time (also an African American of the Ben Carson variety) told the server, 'don't mind him...he'll have the ribeye medium.' I was hesitant, I was scared, and then I took a bite and tasted the sweet heavenly flavor of meat, and all that went in to prepare that scrumptious meat!
Welp upon that glorious day, some 13 years ago, I've NEVER gone back to well done. At my wedding reception, I told the wife you have every cut of filet mignon cooked medium! Being the ignorant black woman that she was, she went behind my back and had them all cooked well done, and I can literally hear crying from the guest. As a smart man, I had my plate specifically prepared medium, and I told her take a bite of yours, then mine, and come to the light, my Nubian Queen. Now?? She's disgusted at the thought of a Well Done steak! Thank God we had an open bar w/ top shelf drinks to calm them down..
The moral?
@brock come on over to the light, my brotha. Come see what meat is meant to taste like. I got my ninjas from the hood not f'ing w/ well done steaks no more. If you can't handle medium-rare, then step up to medium or medium well, which is also flavorful...but no way in **** should any man on this earf eat any well done meat. You're killing the taste, literally.
