OT: Houston vs OU

Enos has done a good job with QB’s in his career but Riley and his system will make you a star. When you marry a QB coach like that with a system like that it’s rarely ever gonna fail. On top of that he keeps getting elite kids. He’ll be coaching in the league in the near future
If Jason Garrett fails this year, the cowboys are going to make a heavy run at Riley

I completely agree. I loved the kid’s tape when we first offered him late last recruiting cycle. Has tons of potential, in my opinion.

Too many porsters sharted on the kid when he commited, just because he wasn’t highly ranked. Last time I checked, neither was Kurt Warner, Baker Mayfield, the kid from Boise State that whooped F$U yesterday, and many others.

At QB either you can play, or you can’t. It takes a lot of intangibles, not only athletic ability. Kyle Wright was a prototypical QB, yet sucked. Accuracy, ball placement, pocket awareness, intelligence and instincts are all extremely important attributes to being a great QB.

I have faith that Jarren can be a great player for us, but I definitely believe that Matocha is gonna make noise here before it’s all said and done.

LMFAO at having to bust out Kurt Warner who was ranked when you had to call up the recruiting companies to find out a players rankings. The Boise kid was a 4 star.

Yes occasionally you have a baker(who was still a 3 star its not like he was unranked), but who are the best QBs this year? Trevor Lawrence and Tua. Both are 5 stars.

Refs are right with this call - the Oklahoma RB pushed Hurts from behind into the endzone, which is illegal.

Not anymore; unless they changed that rule, AGAIN. After the Reggie Bush push of Leinart on a 4th & goal against ND to play for the National Championship game, they changed that rule to save face.

Josh Heupel, he was the predecessor to Lincoln Riley at Oklahoma, they all run the same system.

He's one of the best offensive innovators in the game & a great QB developer.

Weren’t we clamoring for him, as well?

El, we lay an egg against UNC, what’s ur thoughts? (Mind u, I wholeheartedly believe we smoke them, but just a hypothetical)

Honestly; Riley is the true QB whisper, not Enos. I’m not sure Hurts would look like that under our scheme. Riley’s offense is perfect....if the def can play any remote def, they can beat any team, imo
I understand that view. I'm just saying we could have definitely used the experience at that position this yr. I'm perfectly fine with Jarren starting and getting his experience now tho.

Warner was the #3 QB at powerhouse Northern Iowa when he finally got a shot to start during his senior year. He was named the Gateway Conference Player of the Year.

Subsequently he went undrafted, and was invited to tryout by the Green Bay Packers, but was cut right before the start of the regular season. He worked stacking shelves with groceries for $5.50/hour.

He went on to become an Arena Football League legend in his brief stint. He was signed by the Rams in 1997, and was assigned to the Amsterdam Admirals of NFL Europe, where he led the league in passing yards and touchdowns.

Finally in 1999, If it wasn’t for Trent Green being seriously injured, nobody may have ever heard of him. He went on to become one of the greatest QB’s to ever spin it. By the way, his backup with the Admirals was Jake Delhomme, who himself went on to lead the Carolina Panthers to a Super Bowl appearance. Delhomme was another dude that was supposed to be a jag according to NFL scouts.

This only goes to show you that rankings are a very inexact science. Tom Brady wasn’t drafted until the 6th round. He was the 199th pick that year.

I understand the blue-chip ratio and what the stats say. But what the stats don’t account for is coaching and player development and scheme fit. Look at Jalen Hurts and what he did last night playing for an OC and HC that are considered offensive geniuses. He improved greatly under Enos after being a mediocre passer before Enos’s arrival at Bama as QB coach. Now with Riley and company, he is hitting another level.

Coaching has proven time and again to be incredibly important when it comes to winning. The Patriots take many players that seem to be average and put them in positions to succeed and they produce. This is a fact.

A talented roster is important, but without a great staff or elite QB, they will usually not win big. The outliers are Deshaun Watson (even though Debo has proved that he and his staff are formidable), Vince Young with the Longhorns, Cam Newton with Auburn, and the 2001 Miami Hurricanes.

Those Canes coached themselves and had the most talented roster in CFB history. Cam was a freak that willed his team to victory. The same goes for VY and DW.

We’ve seen what corching and lack of player development can do here at the U for the last 15 years. Boise State, TCU and Utah are not in the same stratosphere as us when it comes to blue-chip ratio, yet they always have great coaching. That is the great neutralizer. Guys that know how to scheme and give their opponents nightmares are worth their weight in gold.

If he keeps this up he certainly will win it

The Heisman committee is not giving 3 trophies in a row to Oklahoma qbs. Hurts will put up outstanding numbers, but that will be watered down by the weak *** schedule. It will go to either Tua or Lawrence if both teams are undefeated, even if the numbers aren't as eyepopping.

I am leaning this way myself.
And their defense is still awful so they may lose a couple games. Maybe even the Conference to Texas.

If he has a relatively good year without Milton I see someone making a run at him. If Milton doesn’t get hurt he maybe wins that LSU game. The guy can coach

C'mon man!!!! Riley is good at getting transfers and plugging them in. He hasn't started a kid that he's recruited yet. If they didn't have Hurts, they'd be throwing a true freshman or a redshirt freshman out there and the whole Riley take would be completely different. He has a great offensive scheme and the players to execute it with the #1, #2, and #3 rated WRs in the 2019 class not including the veteran studs they have. Could Riley have the same success with a roster like a Syracuse? NO. It's about the Jimmies and the Joe's.

Houston's defense is atrocious. It was last year at #118 in giving up big plays and #119 in total defense. They still suck on defense. Hurts had all day to throw to wide open WRs. We didn't learn anything new about Hurts from the Houston game. The real question is can Hurts make the throws into tight windows when under pressure? The only test on their schedule that will answer that question is Texas.

If Hurts continues to have these type of rushing numbers to go along with the passing, he will win the Heisman easily

Legit, & be objective....can u blame him for not coming?
Being objective no. Family ties to OU, riley’s Offense is trail blazing college football and to top it off a pretty bag.

Now. If he’s telling the truth when he said he was still coming until he saw we didn’t care after the duke loss. That hurts even more.

He will never make it far enough in the season to get the Heisman if he won't slide.
