Tibia and fibula break, I had one just like that to the same leg my sophomore year with the foot turned out to the side. Mine curved through my growth plate. Three quarter cast (foot to mid thigh) for a month and a half to immobilized movement, a plate, and some screws followed up by a foot to knee for another month and some change. Kind of freaky seeing that, didn't hurt a bit with me besides when I tried to get up, pure shock. Hope his recovery goes well, 26 years later on my end with no problems.
