Think he actually got more impatient, shortsighted and tainted by having Lebron in his ear than greedy. He simply just didn't trust the Heat to "take care of him" and demanded respect via eating all their cap space now. I think it'll prove to be quite foolish on his end as he's not winning anything in Chicago but will still have expectations from that fan base to be "vintage" Wade and he sold the cache of being a lifer with one organization very late in his career out of spite and pride. The Heat would have taken care of him once the Bird Rights cap space scenario was available as 70 yr old Pat Riley wasn't going to trash this franchise now ala Kobe did with the Lakers. Wade just has had other people in his ear reinforcing any doubt and perceptions of disrespect and he was too quick to reach a breaking point he should have never gotten to.

Wait until they get out from Boshy's contract/cap hit too by not clearing him to play this year. They'll roll into 2017 free agency with room for 2 max players and a really deep free agent pool and supposedly deep draft.

Exactly. Bosh's deal will be off the books in February when he still isn't cleared to play. Mc Bob's deal will be done too. Pat's going to go big game hunting one last time after 2017.

Then tell the Heat to take a 7 million hit and resign him. Bet you wouldn't stay at your company if another company paid you $7,000 more. If I played BB or NFL, I would go to the highest bidder. They can't give him what they don't have. You uprooting your family for 7 grand? Good for you. Factor in no state income taxes he probably breaks even. Dude is essentially leaving because his ego is hurt. Classic case of an aging athlete still believing he is as good is he was when he was 25. Heat had to prioritize Whiteside and Durant over him. Maybe if he was in the meeting with Riley and co Durant comes to Miami. Instead he was running around Europe with his butt buddy who costed him millions by leaving him back in Miami. Then he had his people spreading all kinds of **** to the media. Dude straight sabotaged the team and fans he claims to love all because of his pride.
 
Yea this is really sad. He should have went out like Kobe - on a max salary paying nationwide tour for 3 years surrounded by D-league players getting curb stomped by every team in the NBA while being showered with love by fake fans in every city. That would have been really exciting to watch. Instead, now the Heat are stuck with financial flexibility to try to rebuild over the next couple seasons. **** you Riley.

It's sad and I love Wade, but at the same time there's a lot of truth in this post! Wade has changed over the years...
 
After taxes the $$ difference will be close to a wash, so basically he left because his feelings were hurt.
 
I'm gonna miss D Wade. He was the reason I started liking the Miami Heat after the only thing I knew until then was the Bulls. Glad he gets the opportunity to go home.

But I'm also a firm believer in Pat Riley. He knows exactly what he's doing and I think he made the best decision here for the team. We could get a few nice pieces for 2016, or let this season go to waste (especially if Bosh is done) and take advantage of our last available 1st round pick for a while in the next draft and go into the 2017 free agency and load up another championship roster with so many superstars available.

Lebron has also never done it himself. If anything Wade is a lot closer to doing it himself than Lebron. People say Wade had Shaw, but forget Shaw was no longer the same guy he was with the Lakers. Wade carried that team. Lebron needed Wade and Bosh to do it in Miami, and even though he was the finals MVP in Cleveland, Kyrie was killing it during the series as well.
 
Maybe I'm a cynic, but I wanted him to ride before over paying. Heat fan first, wade fan second.

This. A million times over. Anybody who thinks Riley is not thinking in the best interests of the franchise is either blinded by the emotions or knows nothing about basketball. Too many Heat fans caught feelings over Wade leaving. It sucks, I know. He's one of if not my favorite all time basketball players. But I'm a Heat fan first. My interest is in the team building a championship contender. Not giving a last hurrah to a single player who's made close to 500 million dollars in his career through basketball and endorsements.
 
Wade has been a great asset for the Heat, but he's on the downhill side of his career. Aging super star athletes have big egos, and as other posters have mentioned, they don't have the firepower they had when they were younger. The Heat needed to rebuild anyway by finding some strong young talent that will be their future, and now they have the money to do it.
