OT: Diversity

**** Cribby, no disrespect, and I here I thought you were black? Lmao! I rememered your handle from "Cu*tsports"

I've been told I'm really black my entire life lol, so no disrespect .

I always played sports, so I was always around more AA and that's who I mostly ran with. So I guess I put that vibe off.

Btw , what was your handle there?

Excellent, so it's still appropriate to refer to you as my ninja. Lol

Yes sir.

Btw, with a handle like " Rellyrell"you really could've left what ethnicity you are out lol. Kinda figured that one.

The biggest upset so far is Brock, I always assumed he was white. Maybe it was the name " Brock"

Lol.

I'm equally as shocked regarding Brock. Seriously.

Lol y'all crazy man,I could have sworn I said I was black on here

White, Scranton PA (Forbes called it the armpit of America). Lawyer. Had uncles that went to UM and still live there. Been a fan since I started watching football. First real memory was crying when Lamar Thomas got stripped by George Teague in the Sugar Bowl. Saw 1 game at the OB (wide left), and was at the 2001 National Title game, partied with the whole team in the hotel all night long after.

Irish, 26, software developer (voice biometrics).

Have never seen the Canes play in person but have been an armchair fan since 2010, avid fan since 2013. Watched The U in 2010 and I was hooked.

Religiously read r/cfb/, r/miamihurricanes, SOTU, CIS and anything else UM-related on a daily basis. Absolutely can't wait to get over to NMS to see my first game - ideally it would be vs FSU but that doesn't fall at the right time of the season for me given my own sporting commitments.

Happy to be here!

Fan of the year goes to this guy. He became a fan in 2010. Now THIS is a guy who can take a punch.

GTPete00 - Born in India, raised in South Miami (Cutler Ridge then Kendall), living in Atlanta. Christian for 5 generations. Power Company engineer/supervisor. Industrial Engineering degree from GaTech.

Moved to Miami in 1979 and learned American football with the family by watching Jim Kelly, Kosar and Bob Griese.

Older brother went to UM. Biggest highlight as a kid was Craig Erickson calling my house one day to get some help with English HW from my brother and I picked up the phone first.

Uknowhat, there is nothing like UM fans. I've gone to GATech games since I was a student in the mid 90s and when Miami comes to town, it scares the **** out of Tech fans. And it's mainly because we don't look like everyone else. Most southern schools have 85% whites in attendance with a small section of black families that are made up of player families and recruits.

Proud to rep the 305 and proud of the diversity of the canes fam.

White, northeast TN, studying accounting. Never knew why I was a Miami fan. Have no family from there nor any family that roots for Miami or really watches college sports. My parents said that I've always been a Miami fan since I was little even when I didn't even really understand college sports or really any sports. Also a Redskins, Braves, Predators, and Pistons fan. I don't really watch much NBA though.

White male, 24, LeRoy NY, receiver/warehouse for a beer distributing company, attempting to get my associates degree to become a respiratory therapist. Cane fan since 98, vikings fan since 99, 76ers fan until those ******** traded iverson and haven't watched the nba since (though Simmons might change that)...runaway winner for most boring ****** In this thread..

White male, 35, software engineer, live in Brevard county FL. Went to the same high school as Matt Walters. Love Jesus, family, Orlando (Tragic) Magic, and all things Canes. I haven't been to a game since the orange bowl was leveled (God rest her soul). Hoping to change that this season now that the kids are old enough to enjoy it.

Interesting... I'm a Fan of Malcolm X and most people would frown on that because they see him as a radical racist... but he was a smart dude and once he realize that Religion had no racial limits.. meaning when he realize that he had white, red, yellow and brown Muslim brothers it caused him his life... I'm Christian but think that Malcom and Gandhi had some wisdom that we all could learn from..

Some Gandhi quotes that is relative to all Races, Gender and Religions:

"You must be the change you wish to see in the world."

"The weak can never forgive. Forgiveness is the attribute of the strong."

"Happiness is when what you think, what you say, and what you do are in harmony. "

I am not well versed in this, but didn't Malcolm maintain the call for a separate black nation even after he broke with The Nation and became a Sunni?
Yes..but he wanted to establish his new movement on his own .. to avoid anymore friction with the Nation but even say he would eventually open to all Muslims... however he didn't live long enough to follow through with that...

Do you think the separate nation thing is good? America's greatness really came from the whole melting pot concept, not the newer "diversity" idea. DO you think blacks have ever actually melted into the pot in the way of the Irish, German, Italian ... immigrants of the pass have. There are clear differences but it makes a difference in how to deal with this.

In a sense the Civil War was between to different peoples. The north and midwest were settled by mostly Anglo-Saxons and other Germanic peoples from England and German states, while the South was mostly Celtic DNA. These groups were historic enemies and those differences came with them. North won and Southern culture, which included healthy dose of Black culture, was suppressed. To this day if you hear someone say, "yes mam, no mam" he probably Black or a Southern white. As a Southerner, I still have trouble putting up with Yankees. Heck, I bet I would be more comfortable hanging with you than the average New Yorker -- except my Mom, RIP, of course. Strange that football brings us together more than all the government programs. I guess it is another form of tribalism.

This is deep. Maybe too deep for this forum, but here goes...

as far as integration, all other ethnicities in the world can escape their oppression in America, but the AAs who were oppressed here and fought for the "equality" all groups now enjoy in America, can't go to a 'better place with more opportunity' than America. This leaves a residual cultural effect that isn't realized by most and gets obscured by the influx of motivated black immigrants from other countries, who come here to take advantage of all America has to offer.

I think this is what Malcolm was getting at back in the day; 'a separate black nation' to escape a place of oppression and re-invent a culture that wasn't respected. Again, for most all immigrants that place is the USA, but for an AA with roots in the Jim Crowe era and beyond, that may not be the case. That's why from an upward mobility standpoint a lot of immigrants who look AA, my have a different American experience or outlook, but get lumped in to the AA pot.. This really marginalizes people who sacrificed a great deal for this country, and is a under-appreciated aspect of why we have to say BLM.

This is a complex issue that needs more than a paragraph or 2, but I hope this makes some sense..

I'm a black male caribbean immigrant. Got my G.E.D. in Hollywood, A.A. in Pembroke Pines, B.S. & M.D. at the U, who now lives in NYC. I miss Miami every day and come back every opportunity I get. Cane to the core and die-hard Miami sports fan.

Respect to the Vets and peace to the folks in AZ. Phoenix in the house.
