OT - but this is still amazing and awe-inspiring - bridge to Sanibel

Stay safe, @SWFLHurricane and all of my SW FL friends and (former) neighbors...

What a friggin Mess...I talked with Butch, who's home suffered extreme damage. He said the people who came through it pretty much unscathed, were the ones who's homes are on stilts...which quite frankly, are quite prevalent in that area. When I lived on Captiva from 81-83....A good friend had a home on stilts. It was within walking distance to the Mucky Duck.

Have a lot of friends that are fishing guides in that area and a lot of friends who went and helped in the aftermath. All of them saying it’s ugly ugly. Don’t think most people realize what Ian did. Being alive is a blessing. Now let’s put sanibel back to its original land not its over developed self

That'll never happen....

I’ve been cleaning some company assets on captiva and Sanibel. Captiva places I was at had waterline of approximately 12-18 inches while on Sanibel it was up to door frames and up to the 2nd story. Really strange disparity within the Close proximity. Amazing how fast they got the causeway going. Caught us off guard on the boat ride home seeing all the trucks going over the causeway.

They're absolutely doing a fantastic job....but in Cape Coral LCEC (Lee County Electric Co-op) did a terrible job with people's power being turned on.

Oh look, rich and irresponsible people being bailed out again. How touching.

But absolutely right

Yessir, I agree 100%. I’m in the Cape. Mas-tech got our power on. My family and I have not seen LCEC trucks…a day or after the storm, I was on the way back from Miami (got more gas cans) and we saw two LCEC trucks south of Naples heading south. We were like, where the **** are they going. A co worker so one or more of them (don’t recall) around Miami.

Oh trust me....I've been on the phone with multiple friends on the Cape, they said LCEC has been deplorable. Thank God My Aunt who passed away 6months ago, didn't have to live through this. Her home is on Mohawk Pkwy....and suffered alot of flood damage.

You have no idea what tf you're even talking about...Go back to your Central FL sh*thole...
Yeah ... but there IS a point ... how the heck can you even consider rebuilding anything on those "barrier islands" ( aka sandbars) with anybody providing insurance? It is a guaranteed loss ... anything built there will be wiped out ... again .... soon.

Those people on Sanibel and Captiva are Super Rich...Even when I lived on Captiva it was Mega Rich....Nothing will stop them unfortunately...I live 17-18miles from Sanibel now. I personally wouldn't live on either Island, but I can't speak for them.

It may be pointless in the long run and likely a temporary fix, but it's nice to see that things can get done and done quickly. Seems anytime they work on anything anymore, it takes forever. It's a shame though that tax payers will pay for all of this when only a few will reap the benefits. You want to live in these types of places, the cost to repair or upkeep is on you.
