OT: but lol... Billy Napier...

Y’all sleep on Napier..his staff vs Mario’s on the trail will be a dog fight. That man could’ve been a P5 coach by now. For multiple year at least..he was waiting for something like this to open up…he should not be dismissed like norvell lol

ESPN reported Napier will have a budget of $7.5M for a staff of 10, plus $5M for support staff and analysts.

It will be interesting to see Mario’s budget, given the $20-30M budget increase we’ve been told about.

There were people who thought Mullen was a great hire for them. How'd that turn out?
Mullen is a good coach..but he was committed to recruiting. When asked about recruiting during this szn.

“Well worry about that during recruiting season”- Mullen

Lol that was the nail in his coffin. He’s gunna land on his feet and be a steal for someone

Will be around the same..Mario is getting 8 mill per for 5 years..that tells me money for staff won’t be a issue

Not as a head coach. He peaked at OC. And his choice of Frank's over Trask brings that into question.

If he's smart, he gets an OC gig somewhere and does it to the best of his ability.

The issue with Napier is: Will he be able to recruit at a high enough level to compete in the SEC? He’s a good game day coach, but competing in the Sunbelt is a **** of a lot different than competing in the SEC. It should be interesting….

Florida: Billy Napier's deal is 7 years, $51.8 million per the AP. Deal begins at $7.1 million and increases by $100,000 each year.

They just paid a Sun Belt coach $7.4M a year?? :ROFLMAO:

That's more than Ryan Day and Kirby Smart make. And he's bringing at least two guys from his FCS staff with him?

Oh, I am here for this.
Thays NOT an fcs staff or school. But I hear you.

As of late P5 conferences havent been kind to G5 coaches.
Trust the process.

Come at me! I didn't call it a great hire, fwiw, I think I said that I think he will do well there. Which is the same thing to some extent, sure! Freeman is already loved at ND by the players, recruits, fellow staff, admin and fans. There is instant buy-in there. The train is already rolling down the track and he kept his red hot OC that Kelly tried to take to LSU. He was kept for continuity. It's a common path, just like Lincoln Riley at OU and Ryan Day at OSU*.

But even though I think Napier is walking into a snake pit, I actually didn't even criticize the hire (though I think they could have done a lot better), did I? So you are moving the goal posts on me, no?

I am laughing because they paid a Sun Belt coach Ryan Day money. LSU didn't even give him a sniff, there wasn't a lot of competition in the market for him. Sorry, he raked them. This is a thread on how idiotic UF misread the market and panicked. While it's not disclosed, I GUARANTEE you Freeman didn't get anywhere near what UF is overpaying Napier. They were bidding against themselves.
I think Florida made a very underwhelming hire. I posted the same in the original Napier to Florida thread. You were very "bullish" on the Freeman hire. I compared it to us hiring Randy Shannon when we did, and we all know how that worked out. You called it a bad uneducated take or something of that sort. I still think there are a lot of similarities with the two hires.

I think you are just conflating the elevation of a DC to the only example there is at Miami... which is Shannon. Why? Shannon was a big reach. We went cheap. His stock was sort of high internally because of our 2001 team where he was the DC... a team that made Larry Coker look like the COY. Fools gold. And of course Miami fell for it. As we did with Manny.

Freeman is much closer to the new Aranda, a charismatic guy who people gravitate to, who has been crushing it, and is probably the most desired defensive coach in the country right now because of his scheme and how it's executed. He did it at Cincinnati, and then he did it at the highest level at ND. Proved he was no fluke at different levels. LSU offered him $2.5M to be DC/AHC. The market has spoken.

A valid comparison would be Aranda, Riley, or Day. Guys who recently were shining hard as coordinators and earned the bump to a big, big time job directly from coordinator. Notice that all three of those guys are CRUSHING it? I don't know why you would use Randy Shannon's reign at Miami from 10-15 years ago as your comparison. The entire game had changed exponentially since, and as illustrated, the men and situations have nothing in common.

Shannon = Manny.
Freeman = Aranda, Day, Riley

My 2 cents.

So while Napier’s term sheet — with its $7.5 million average annual salary and 85-percent-of-the-remainder buyout guarantee...

:LOL:

If Napier were to get fired at the same point in his Florida tenure as Mullen, the Gators would owe him $19.4 million...

:LOL:

Instead of getting sucked into a bidding war with LSU that Florida might not win, Stricklin hired Napier... The difference is that Kelly has won at this level. He has taken a team to the College Football Playoff. He has taken a team to a national title game. Napier took a downtrodden program and on Saturday won the Sun Belt title, but those achievements are different by an order of magnitude.

:LOL:

If you’re sure he’s your guy, you pay what you have to pay. And if he and his agent think he’s that hot a commodity, they’ll ask for a ton or they walk.

That's right, you pay what you have to. LSU passed on him, OU passed on him, USC passed on him, Miami passed on him.

There was no competition in the market. They didn't have to pay him Ryan Day money. Raked.
