It's not about the # ranking, it's about who your coach thinks is the best. If your coach says #9 is the perfect guy for my team, then you offer whatever you have to/can to get him.
 
In case it hasnt been said already, in basketball the bag money goes "all the way up, no one can stop" cause unlike football where its a little more easier to replace and coach around certain things, in basketball, one superstar, d-wade at marquette for instance or curry at davidson can get you to the final 4 dayum near by themselves, in football, the capspace is always going to be lower cause you got more players to deal with. ****, 150K is about what they were offering when charles barkley was coming out of highschool, that's the old basketball pay scale, the 2019 version hasnt been circulated yet but invite rick petino or john sadipari out for lunch, im sure they have the numbers!

They were really good back then. They had Stephon Marbury around that time. You're either too old and you have memory issues or you're too young and don't know what you don't know.
 
This is what happens when thread hits are low because the canes are doing badly and a short term mentality takes over, which lets an attention ***** run wild without any checks, because he generates a few extra clicks and a few pennies more.

Now he’s emboldened to post *** **** stories in a thread about a real issue in college sports.

I mean you guys know you’re letting this site turn into a joke, right?

I hope those few extra clicks were worth it a few months ago

That's rather presumptive of you. Marbury was on GT in 1995; the Yellow Jackets were a shell of the team he was on by the time they reached out to Harrington in 1998. GT went from 24-12 the one year Marbury played there, to a paltry 9-18 the following year.

Schools that drop $450k bags don't allow that to happen. Period.

Doesn't really have to be GT one might have just made an offer from a donor. In the 90's I use to bet College BB they weren't always real bad. They had some good players some years, I would always say how did that school get those players. They were pretty darn good at home too. It does seem like a lot of money though, they could have been conning him, after he signs that 50k might have been it. Nothing he could really do about it without hurting himself.

That I dont know, the basketball players cousin who i worked with told me about how he pulled up at a family get together with a new ride and everything. He played in the NBA I dont know if he still there I havent really looked.

Edit: I just looked hes not in the NBA no more hes in another league

It’s not the school paying. And there are plenty of wealthy GT alumni. Cremens had it wired. Kenny A., Marbury, Dennis Scott. Them boys werent free.

And didnt Kentucky get busted back in like 1988 sending 100K to a recruit? Envelope opened or some such thing.

The value of a top ten player in cbb is enormous.
