OT: 100 greatest NFL teams of all time

I know far too many people who would say the top 20 would be the Patriots from 2000-present and then bicker over the exact order.

To be honest, I lol at anybody who thinks the 1972 Dolphins are the best NFL team ever.
Been a Phin fan from day one and I'd have to agree. Just because they went undefeated doesn't give them the #1 spot by default. They were over achievers both '72 and '73 with a legendary HC.

weren't the dolphins that year #1 in the NFL in both offense and defense?

that's a rare combo and that too should make them among the best ever

for myself, i would say the following are a few of the best I ever saw for one season:

85 bears
73 dolphins
84 49ers
78 steelers

I seem to recall that but had to look it up to be sure and yes, they were #1 on both sides. Also was the first time 2 RB's on the same team ran for over 1000 yards - Czonk and Morris.

I saw every home game that year and '73 as well.

Lost a couple of close ones but that defense was dominant.

losing two games in two years ought to be a benchmark for comparing other repeat champions

also, the OL was magnificent

griese only threw 6-7 times or so in the afc championship game and the SB

he didn't need to throw more. Miami simply ran it down oakland & minnesota's throats starting with the first drive.

that's dominant.

I think this year’s Bengals would destroy the 72 dolphins
Depends. If they played them in 1972, the Dolphins would win 1000-0. Seeing as how none of the Bengals were born just yet. If they played NOW, the Bengals win 6-0. I just can't see the Dolphins moving the ball well with 70 year old RBs.
