OSU- Better matchup?!

I love our DL vs OSU OL.
Often times in the NFL its a singular match-up in the trenches that makes for a head scratching out come. At this level we are sort of encroaching on that territory.

So many people are looking at the box score from yesterday and saying the game was sloppy. The weather affected the passing game on both sides. The quality of defense that both teams were able to play, with each teams pass game limited was exceptional. The difference was our ability to dominate their interior d line.

This is to say that despite OSUs advantage on D. If we force turnovers and limit their offense to under 17 we may be able to score enough pts on STs and short field opportunities created by the defense to win it. Even if our offense can't move it much on them. The key is to avoid turnovers and take advantage of the opportunities the defense gives us.

We missed 3 fgs in a very difficult kicking environment yesterday. If we make even 2 of those the win looks better and we probably are a little more explosive on offense too. How much did the wind aid our defense in containing A&M? Who's to say? Just glad we came out on top in a very tough environment with a lot of adversity. Made us all proud to watch and believe this team can win against anyone.

The only advantage tamu has over taint is the OL. Thats it.
That sounds like a problem and why they struggle with teams with legit DL and why its way more even than the initial narrative. We said it for years, u can have all the skill, and that matters but its highly ineffective if you have no time to throw and cant run the ball with the RBs.

My gut tells me the Canes have a 30-35% chance to win. I think that would work out to a ~4.5 point line.

OSU's defense is really good, and they don't have TAMU's glaring weakness against inside runs. It's going to be tough sledding. However, I think Miami's defense will be the best that OSU has faced thus far. And that posh **** Julian Sayin is due to get his *** kicked.

The difference could come down to non-offensive scores. We were very close to housing two yesterday. Just one could decide the Cotton Bowl.

I don’t think OSU is anywhere near the team they were last season. And, I don’t think Sayin is some elite QB. I’ll give them the BOD for Texas because it was the first game but against Indiana I saw they aren’t much different than us personnel wise.

I think every starter and significant contributor on our current defense will play in the NFL just like their defense. Aside from media hype there’s little difference between us and them.

We have a better matchup with our DL vs the OL than Texas A&M. That said, Sayin will not play QB the same way MR played it against us. At first blush, him being a dual threat looked nice, but it also gave them false confidence with some of their long developing plays and that played into our dline strength.

Sayin is going to be throwing quick passes. They are going to try to use Louisville game plan.

What will be interesting to me is how we play the wrs at the LOS. Against UL, I seem to remember we played off and they hit a lot of shallow crosses/slants.
So hopefully we’ve learned from the Louisville game. If Sayin is throwing quick passes, then it’ll be imperative to be physical & get guys on the ground.

OSU hasn’t seen a defense or OL like ours. Get them star rankings out of your heads. Look at how our players are rapidly ascending mock draft boards.

Having an accurate QB in college is a cheat code because the windows are simply so much bigger. I know the wind was a factor yesterday, but look how many inaccurate passes Reed threw that could have been completions. This is where Taint kills you because you can’t cover their WRs and their QB is deadly accurate. Our chance in this game is by pressing Sayin. If you give him time to throw the ball from clean pockets to JJ and Tate, you’re dead. But we have the best DL they’ve seen all year, so we have a shot.

But no, it’s absolutely not a better matchup because Reed sucks. Sayin doesn’t. I have been saying though I’m very interested to see how our offense plays. I think it’s a better matchup for Beck because he’s not going to be playing in a hurricane with 100k people screaming at him. Taint also doesn’t rush the passer as well as A&M does. I think we’ll have opportunities to throw the ball form clean pockets, in a dome, in a reasonably comfortable environment.

Everyone, myself included, said Beck didn’t need to play his BEST game to beat A&M, he just needed to play clean. And we were right. Clean isn’t good enough to beat Taint. We’re not holding them to 3 points. Beck has to play his best game for us to win. And I think he’ll have a chance to. My biggest concern is can we get open against their DBs? Beck and Dawson, this is your game. We need 20+ to win. 10 ain’t gonna cut it.

I think some of y’all are underrating A&M WRs and TEs. Aside from Jeremiah I don’t think OSU has a better receiver unit (I’m including TEs) than A&M. What A&M did to ND in the air was shocking to me. I don’t think OSU with Jeremiah could play better than A&M’s receivers did against ND.

We shut A&M’s receivers down.

So Indiana has a better defense than us? Because Sayin didn’t ball against them.
