And you know what else is a big hurdle? This was one of Oregons nutritionists.

Now this gal is going to be an assistant athletic director at PSU. Our assistant athletic director?

And you wonder why Mario would want to stay far, far away from UM

And yet still won't win a title cause they can't get the elites from sfla to live in that **** hole
Maybe not win, but they have just as many title appearances as we’ve had in the last 2 decades. How many S. Fl kids did USC have when Pete had them rolling?

Whatever Mario decides, it's not going to be an easy decision. He's got it good in Eugene, but it Eugene. Thing is, Nike has enough $ to turn Eugene into Disneyland, if that's what they wanted to do.

Hopefully, whatever he decides, our higher up realize it shouldn't be that hard to convince an alum to return to Miami. It really shouldn't!

OSU wouldnt have to say much to Fickell if the job became available. And, there's always talk about Dabo (a Bama Alum) being the successor to Saban. But here, a school that seems to like 'keeping it in the family' is going to have a very tough time convincing Cristobal to come back home. Say what you want about Oregon, but you can't question their commitment to that program.

Leinhart, Bush, L, white, Cushing and **** even Keith Richards was from Seminole county not sfla at scW

you dominate California recruiting you’ll win. Less competition for Southern California kids than southern Florida kids

Not many, but it's also interesting USC went 25 years between titles and needed one of the all time great college coaches to win their last natty (and they were also cheating to get recruits).

Miami won 3 titles (4* if you want to count 2002) with mediocre to straight up horrendous coaches (Dennis Erickson, Larry Coker). That tells me that Miami can win simply by stacking the roster with enough talent and we don't need an elite Xs and Os coach to win a title. Usc, at least this century, appears to not only need to have a loaded roster, but an elite coach as well. Maybe it's an irrelevant distinction and even Larry Coker could have led that USC team to a national title. I doubt it though.

Pls understand, location is actually why Oregon does what it do.

I have two little homies that currently attend Oregon. I literally talked to one of them 20 mins ago just to tap in. Phil Knight & others got tired of their Alma Mater being door mats, so they decided to invest in the program to make it attractive & it has yielded major dividends. From the uniform combos, to their facilities, the University of Oregon invested in themselves b/c they had no choice compared to their counterparts in the Pac-12

Carroll was USCs fourth option when hired, after Dennis Erickson, Mike Bellotti, and Mike Riley turned them down. He campaigned for the job, and had a daughter attending school at USC. He hadn’t coached in college in 20 years. His hiring was met with disbelief by many. He went 6-6 Year 1. He was great after-the-fact.

USC did not have elite rosters after Robinson left in 1983 and Carroll being hired in 2001. They were not on the same level as Miami most of those years. The Trojans were a brand, living off their 70s-early 80s reputation of 3 NCs and star players like Charles White, Marcus Allen, Ronnie Lott, Dennis Smith, Bruce and Clay Matthews, Anthony Munoz and a few others.

Mike Williams was their stud WR teaming with Palmer and Leinhart. Big WR from Tampa. How he ended up at SC I do not know but IIRC he befriended Keyshawn Johnson (Bucs) who recommended him to Carroll. Other schools were recruiting him as an eventual TE.

I agree they didn't hire Carroll expecting he'd be one the best college coaches ever. He turned out to be exceptional. I know every school hopes they hit a homerun with their hires, but very, very, very few do. There just aren't that many coaches with that ability. However, it is much easier to stumble upon a coach who is a Double. Miami has won championships with coaches who fall down trying to run to first base with their pants down around their ankles. Mario is a solid double. We've won with much less (we've actually won more championships with mediocre to bad coaches than good coaches). I don't see USC winning with any coach who isn't elite (like an Urban Meyer). For example, IMO James Franklin is a triple. One of the better coaches in cfb. Yet I don't think he's good enough to win a championship at USC.
