Orange Bowl OG's please answer me this.

The Rock doesn't shake much because of the construction of the stadium. OB on her last legs was shaking like crazy. The canopy also makes the Rock much louder than it was before. ND, parts of VT, and the second half last night were on par with some of those OB games in the early 90s and early 2000s, IMO. Tailgating culture has improved in the last 5 years, but back when it neighborhood parking in Little Havana the **** would start early and get wild.

Hard Rock has become electric

But the Orange Bowl games and atmosphere, inside and outside the stadium, were life changing.

Houston game onThursday night I forgot their QB that was really good. At one point it got so loud the Canes players were shouting Orange Bowl Orange bowl !

The OB was basically Aluminum . How about Ron Jaworski of the Eagles was in the closed end and had to back away 4 times before gettin
g the snap off.
 
The Orangebowl will always be number 1 in my heart. So much history happened there thats hard to duplicate. But The Rock is getting there. Last night I felt rumbling as the crowd went into pandemonium for the 2nd half. The ND, VT & last night's FSU game were the best to compare to the OB.

I've been a season ticket holder for 38 years. ND was the Loudest game I've ever been to. The roof doesn't let the sound escape. The VT game last year was also very very loud. The OB was loud as **** too but it would also rock which made it amazing!!. But props to Hard Rock because that stadium is now pretty amazing.
 
So many great memories of the OB. ND, UF (the damage they did to Bell...oooh weee), FSU, OU... the place was magical. Stadium rocking, feet pounding on the metal floor, the heat sweltering, fans going crazy and the Canes playing ball. **** good times.

Remember taking my wife, then girlfriend to a game (think it was against Cuse) and her walking out of the ladies restroom in about 2" of water saying she would never go back to that place...lol!

Hard rock was shaking last night. Especially when they played jump around. Right after we made it 27-21
 
If we build some great Canes teams like those days promise the Rock will build its own rep.
 
Hard to beat Little Havana tailgates and the OB. Place was like the gallows for opposing teams at night. That said, seems like maybe some of the ghosts of the OB have relocated.

Nothing can compare to third and 45 against ND in a packed OB...or the Thursday night games, especially when we obliterated Houston...seems some of that OB mystic is showing up at Hard Rock and yesterday plus ND and VT last year heavily contribute to that magic of home as it is roaring back. The mystic comes from the fans and these kids are bringing back loyal, dedicated Cane fans that get the Cane THING!
 
1989 UM vs ND was the Loudest game (from start to finish) in OB History, Dolphins or Canes...You literally could not hear yourself think....
1994 Carlos Jones Pic6 was the loudest moment....Aside from ND last yr...the Rock isn't OB Crazy.....It's nice...but Maaannnn a night game at the OB back in the day was pure insanity...

The Rock @ Night (FSU game ended in darkness) just seems like it's going to start being a thing of legends. I can't rave enough about much those renovations improved that stadium. Of course big wins help too.

OB was unique in that when the crowd got on their feet that stadium would literally shake (I not sure structurally that was a good thing), but it was like an earthquake. Also the stadium had a unique design in that the upper deck covered a good portion of the lower deck seating. When the crowd got loud, the cover of the top desk would act like amplifier to crowd noise on the lower deck (like the roof at the Rock) and sound become off the chart. Also the OB could take 15K more people. Playing in a packed house, big game was a thing of magic. The rock is great, but nothing will be like the OB (and I say thats not because it was magic, but because a part of it sound making ability was because the city of miami hadn't put a dime into it after the 70s, so structurally it was struggling - thus the ability to make the old girl quake!)
 
HR is up there but there’s nothing like the OB. It’s so nostalgic for me..stadium used to really shake..it was as if the crowd was on top of the field.

HR is dope though..I have zero complaints about it. Best cfb venue in the country.,

When Carlos Jones picked off the Pass there was an insane roar....but when he crossed the goalline, it was like an Atomic Bomb went off....LoL...I was sitting with wifey in the WEZ in Jones direct path....
 
It is a little different. I like the Hard Rock tailgating scene much better than that of the OB....there weren't that many lots and they were small. Otherwise, you were just setting up your spread on the street or in someone's yard.

As far as the loudness, it's pretty much there....the OB noise was of a different quality though because of all that steel.

OB crowd was a lot nastier. Seats were benches with dashes of paint delineating the seats. This often helped lead to a lot of fights during crowded games. Dolphins games in the old OB were even nastier....there was a certain rough and tumble blue collar element in the stands back then you don't really get today. I remember one game against the Raiders, seemed like a fight was breaking out every 5 minutes.

ND, VT and yesterday’s game rival any game at the OB in terms of loudness and atmosphere.

A lot of people commenting here, you know who you are, who didn’t even go to the game yesterday.
 
Nothing compares today to the raw energy of compelling big time OB games, day or night.

The run down stadium, the tight space, girls in bikini tops, and the deafening roar (especially for big defensive play) was special.

Economics and creature comforts dictate OB's design and feel is just a non-starter really since the 90s. Maybe Beckham's new soccer house will recapture some of that magic, but for NCAA or NFL, long, long gone.

Tragic the way last game ended via UVA.
