The other day they brought up the Canes 58 game home winning streak and what team stopped that streak. I sat there and thought, I had just moved to SFLA in '93 and my pops got season tickets the following year and guess what was my first Canes game at the old Orange Bowl. Mfing Napoleon Kauffman. He ran up and down the Canes in the second half. My pops, brother and I were waking out saying to each other, our first live Canes game!!!

We saw some good ones over the years though. 2000 and 2001 were some crazy good ones. Remembering it felt as the concrete of the Orange Bowl was moving from the ruckus of the fans getting buckwild.

I was at that game and Washington put a licking on us.

I was too - we also played like a bunch of morons. Little bit of culture rot going on at that time, too (though obviously, that team still rebounded and made it to a major bowl with an outside shot of winning the title)

Upvoted for the use of the word buckwild

Yes, they did. Especially in the second half. Wow, the good ole days. I am in SC these days but always keep up on the Canes.

My pops and I had a conversation a few hours ago about some of the classics we were fortunate to be at. He is now in Palm Coast as my brother is also. My sister is a UM alumn after graduating from Taravella in Coral Springs. She graduated with Jarret Payton and was fortunate to become friends with him as her roommate dated him for s bit.

After that 2001 title we all went to the celebration on campus and while I was there, who was standing right beside us for a bit. Shockey, Reed and McKinnie Probably the best collegiate offensive lineman in a generation.

I approached the trio cause I had to go run my mouth with them for a few minutes and they were great. While shaking McKinnies paw, I looked down as his hand was twice the size of mine.

That 2001 squad I feel is the best collegiate football team of all time, top to bottom and the pros that also came from those boys.

So it was OP’s fault. Everything was fine till you showed up to a game.

was lucky enough to attend almost all of the 58.
We grew up in NJ but for some reason rooted and watched them from afar. In 1993, my pops was accepted to UMs Law School so he moved two of my siblings and mom down to SFLA. I helped them move and when I finally reached our destination, I said to myself, I got to follow them after experiencing some things at 20 years old that I wasn't privileged to in NJ.

3 months later, my residence became Broward County, FL. So that next year was my first opportunity to see a live Canes game. That loss did suck being the first one but we were hooked from there. Seen some great ones over that next decade.

Erickson brought them down and Butch bringing them back to where he did was outstanding. I feel if he didn't run to coach Cleveland, he could of built a dynasty from how and what he did, from recruiting to culture and beyond.

They haven't had an elite and one of a kind football IQ like Butch Davis coaching UM since. If you look at the talent that has come through the U since Coker was ousted, you will find constant Miami players that have been drafted and became All-Pro while not habit a collegiate career anywhere near there Pro careers.

Think about that........ Doesn't coaching and coaching these kids to meet that rare potential play the biggest part towards being successful on that next level. If Christobal can't do it over the next three years and bring them back to prominence, I don't know who will ever be able to do it. Christobal wanted that job when Davis left but Coker was put in place with all the pieces in place that Butch built and after 2002, look how the decline began. They wasn't Coker's title as much as it was Davis'

This post has triggered my ole Cane memories, trying to see how far I go back in OB.
I’ll try a throw some names of players that pop up no years they played but at least there names with terrible spelling.

Johnny Williams RB
Steadman Scavella DT DE
Ed Beckmann TE
Papa Nick Chickillo ( the original ole man)
Steve Alvers TE ( taught me everything in OL DL play including long snaps) he raised my game to NFL level in high school , almost killed me .

Trying to only name 1960 or so players, I’m trying be accurate as possible since I was raised with Cane players families and Jack Harding head football coach family every day weekend we all were together

My UM lineage is very rich and deep , my mind is now downloading like crazy with memory of players WHAT ABOUT ME !!!!

I also spread many urns of ashes at midfield on the U and U helmet before games SHHHH

I like it. See this is how I learn from the older Canes fan. I don't have the years and lineage but I am cresting that for my children. My dad went back
To school later in life, so we didn't end up die hard Canes until I was in my early 20s and he was in his early 40s.

Wisdom and knowledge is always a great place to pick especially when individuals as you have that great knowledge to pick.

Butch's kids were there till 2004....that's when the decline started.

Yesterday was my first day on here after signing up
So thank you and this is a place I have needed for sometime now as I have moved to SC for career reasons and here I don't have the same info I did back in SFLA.
