i think this is also preparation for the free agency that going to continue to happen after spring ball due to corona ... that being said, you can't deny manny's success ... he got two draft picks to play defensive ends ... that changed our season ... big schools would be silly not to set up a program to take advantage of it as well ...

Funny how this dude is using Mullet as an example of being ahead of the game when it comes to the transfer portal, when it was Manolo that was the one that was ahead of the curve.

These SEC hacks make me want to throw up. It wasn’t that long ago that Gaytor fans were making fun of us for going to the transfer portal to get players, and now they have reversed the narrative, and Danny Mullet is the guy that started this trend? Laughable.

i didn't even read it, but it's well known, miami will give you an opportunity ... the proof is out there now ... some of those other schools are gonna run into issues as they are already stacked, how do you convince guys to come in that want max exposure for a year or two when you recruit on an extremely high level

We also picked up a transfer kicker that went all american and won the Groza.

Not to shabby

Ive been saying it for years.
Not only is 247 sec biased but they leak more recruiting info to those schools that you can imagine. Just ask any police detective or government official. Reporters are paid snitches.
Edit: except CIS dudes

At least for the time being, almost everyone should be trying to take advantage of the portal. Outside of a small handful of loaded programs, pretty much everyone has roster holes. In a “win now” world of college football, coaches would be stupid to ignore a plug and play transfer while waiting for an unknown to “develop”. It’s not like 20+ years ago when teams had to rely on transfers because they couldn’t sign anyone. Top flight teams are taking transfers now and top flight players are transferring. Guys like Joe Burrow, Jalen Hurts, Kyler Murray, Baker Mayfield and Justin Fields are Heisman caliber players who all transferred. That’s just quarterbacks.

Even the loaded programs see value in the portal. Alabama grabbed ****erson from FSU and he went on to win the Rimington trophy.

Funny just last week I got destroyed by the resident "experts" on here who told me only a **** program exploits the portal and there's no way it's a huge part of the future.
Some people can't recognize the difference between getting a few top players like we did and getting anybody who'd agree to come like FSU did.

Ol Dan also invented CFB, so he does have that to his credit.

its big transfers but the main powers dont use this to get their star players. Need to hit the trail, does the portal help? Yes but I still say get your studs out of HS. U can get some good players out the portal though

i listed a whole bunch of Heisman winners and finalists who transferred to playoff teams earlier in this thread.

In today’s game, players are going to transfer. Especially if they don’t get starting spots right away. You can sign 25 high school kids every year but there’s a good chance at least two or three of them will transfer out if not more. You can worry about losing IC’s by signing transfers or you can worry about losing IC’s when the kids you sign transfer out after a year or two. Nobody should be chasing away high school stars to save room for transfers but if my team has a hole that needs immediate help, I’d rather use an IC spot on a plug and play transfer than a bottom of the recruiting class future JAG.

Agree but like always it comes down to evals, if the guy coming in is a legit player u bring them in.

Of course. You’d always rather have a good player for four years rather than one or two. But the fact remains that even the most loaded teams have relied on transfers to fill holes in their lineups. Even Alabama, who recruits better than everyone, signed a transfer center because they weren’t satisfied with what they had at the position. Ideally you don’t want holes in your roster and you try to recruit well enough to keep some balance but for almost every single team, that’s just not the reality.
