What is with this format of one FCS team every year, two minor conference teams and just one power conference team?

All while we're playing in the worst division in any power conference? And only play Clemson twice every 12 years? (Unless we make the conference title game.)

This is ridiculous.

It's probably a lot easier to schedule a game against one of a multitude of G5s hungry for a marquee match-up than to find an appropriately difficult P5 team that is more interested in getting 6 wins to qualify for a bowl. Also, what would be the advantage to scheduling harder? No one cares if one of your OOC games was against Temple rather than Kentucky.

If you are a Power 5 team and you go undefeated, you’re in the playoff.
If you’re a Power 5 champ and you lose a game, you’re probably in the playoff.
If you’re not an SEC team and you lose a game, while not being a champ, you’re out of the playoff.
If you lose more than 1 game, you’re out of the playoff.

Why would you schedule a couple of power 5 teams and take the chance of losing and be out of the playoff picture?
That’s the new college football.
