Only Miami Fans

Understand how you see it, especially after over 10 years of us all being burned. I didn’t want the hire initially, as I don’t like his recruiting deficiencies. I wanted Leach really bad, and Butch or Mario as a back up and Manny as a back up to them. I do like Mannys attitude, smarts, and swag. I do believe he doesn’t just pay lip service, and works his butt of to, as a minimum, meet the Hurricane standard...and have his team do the same. I’m not around him, but he appears to lead, and people seem to want to follow him. That said, I’m willing to give him a chance and....he better get a good OC tho.

I knew when I woke up most Miami fans would talk themselves into liking whoever we hired, it didnt mater who we hired we would talk ourselves into it. Me I think it was a terrible hire I will root for the Canes but Im on wait and see and my tell all will be the 2019 class. He has a full year to show better results on the trail then storm 18 and this bad class of 2019. Alot of fans remind me of a guy whos been cheated on and she says she coming back and she wont do it again and u try to convince yourself and put blinders on. Miami has cheated on us 4 times and came back and said we want to win while lying in our face, me this hire was lazy and planned from the jump.

I like Diaz's energy and swag but his defenses were over rated but for what he had up front he did well. I think the recruiting aspect of MD will be his downfall just like the previous four coaches and this hire has put the nail in a once historic program. U have fans on here talking about he bagging up when he never recruited well before and now there trying to convince themselves, its amazing to me how many of u get tricked by the brand new toy that was actually rewrapped and refurbished in a new color. I may look like a fool and I'll admit that if it turns out to a title but Im confident in saying this wont workout and no big time program would of hired him.

Also want to edit, I didnt make this post to get anybody upset this is my opinion and keep them feelings in check bruh
I made a thread similar to yours yesterday bro! Had we hired a lady b-ball coach these fools would be ok with it.

100% bruh. I’ll know what I need to know in February and I don’t think it’s gonna be what people think
We will know in a month if this is real life..........if he closes on the remaining elite guys we are in the mix for I will be impressed

Im with dwintitles on this one 100%. It was a lazy hire because we didn’t even explore the market. The Canes were without a HC for about 15 hours. That’s not doing your homework! Was Dino Barber or Mike Leach contacted? At the end of the day,it was simply a LAZY hire. I like Diaz but the Miami job needs to be earned and Manny hasn’t proven enough. Why not let him get ears wet coaching Temple. Dude is all Miami and would come back anytime. Meanwhile, let some proven coach do his thing and keep close ties with Manny if you really like him. Having said that I hope Diaz kills it here and become a household name. Go Canes!

I don’t know if it is a good hire or not yet. I will say that he wasn’t my first choice but I have accepted the hire.

I will disagree with you on the final nail in the coffin though. I think college football is similar to MLB in a way. In mlb, they say you are only as good as the next days starter (pitching). I think any program is as good as their current coach. We have expectations from 20 years ago but haven’t reached those levels in 17 years. Nebraska, michigan, Tennessee are just a few other schools who have expectations different based upon current reality.

Finding the right coach or the next Saban isn’t easy and they may not exist in the current coaching carousel. But, coaches can come in and change a trajectory of a program. Carroll at usc, Dabo at Clemson, even Saban at Bama. Those coaches are few and far between for a reason. We caught lightning in a bottle when Howard came here and followed it up with Jimmy who went on to win 2 Super Bowls. Dennis kept everything moving forward as well.

I do like the attitude and competitiveness that Diaz brings. It reminds me of the coaches here in the 80s and early 90s. Not sure how that will translate on the field yet and I don’t think he has the same expertise as those three. I think he could be a home run if he can nail down the OC hire and hold his players and coaches accountable to the product on the field.

As much as I don’t think he was the best hire, I want that opinion to be completely wrong. I will support him for the next couple of years because it only makes his job harder if I don’t and because I’m a diehard cane fan.

I recently had a debate with a friend about the Chicago Bears hiring Nagy. I was for it and he was against it. Neither of us were right or wrong but the early results favor me. He didn’t like some of the coordinator hires and wanted the DC to be promoted to HC. You don’t know how people will respond when they are put in leadership positions for the first time but Nagy turned control of the defense over to a great DC. If Diaz can do the same for his offense, I think he can be very successful here.

It's not just Miami fans. Like any other fanbase there will be a certain portion who would hate whomever we hired, another portion who loved whomever we hired and those somewhere in the middle who will wait and see how it plays out.

I don't know what you look like but you sound like a fool.
Be a fan, or don't be a fan. It's kinds that simple.

Post of 2018. To be a fan or to not be a fan. That is the question! You sound like the fool since you feel the need to make it that simple.

Butch Davis was an unproven college coach when he got hired at the U he was a NFL DC for the Cowboys before that but people forget that.

Butch was assistant under JJ at Miami on both sides of the ball and ended up recruiting coordinator. He went with JJ to Dallas and has two or three rings for it. He had never been HC in college but neither has Howard — just did things like coached with the Bear recruited QBs like Joe Willie, won,NC, and then, like Butch, went to NFL ending without Shula as OC for the Perfect Team. Manny has experience getting fired from only other major power he coached at and landing the Temple job. His biggest achiement , and it was a big one, was the TOC.

You always keep it real and I respect that.

With that said I think you're wrong on this one.

Manny might just be the one to take us to the playoffs and beyond.

Only time will tell

Butch was known as an elite recruiter like Mario.........Diaz is not known for that at all

Totally agree with this.

I still feel it is a lazy hire. But I'm willing to give it a chance. TBH, it will depend on what type of staff he can put together on the offensive side of the ball. At this point, we don't know if he will be a hit or a miss.

we dont have a choice but to deal with it

Agreed OP. We are the laughing stock of college football. We just paid Temple for the rights to hire our own DC. Think about that. Also, did the administration forget that not only have we tried the successful DC with Miami Tues once before? Did they forget that we also tried the Temple HC route as well? This administration continues to respect the same mistakes over and over.
