The spread has been around long before Saban was born. It just happens to be in vogue and effective today. It is effective because not many teams have used it and defenses - which are traditionally resistant to change - have not adapted to it.

What is the spread? It is based on the principles of spreading out your opponent and attacking with speed. These principles have been known for thousands of years, since the early days of organized combat.

Don't care what happened thousands of years before football was a sport. Saban was all about pro-style offenses until he lost. Now he brings innovators in and runs a 2019 style offense. Saban adds to his empire by collecting Head Coaches that didn't make it every year. Meanwhile Butch is getting older and isn't out-pacing the young coaches within his own conference. Saban isnt building at 70, he's adding. Butch isn't even relevant to P5 programs. If you can't see the difference, thats on you.

Butch played alot of freshman... during his time here... Morgan, Moss, Wayne, Edge, Dorsey just to name a few

Bull****. He would be way down my list unless I was cash strapped. Respect for what he did long ago pre-internet, camp circuit, and nationwide 7v7, but his time has passes. His current gig says that as well.

Evaluating and recruiting were what Butch did best - and that was his favorite part.

Butch went after some real athletes - more so than specialists. He did his homework, and I can't remember which UM player said it - but words to the effect, "Butch made you really believe he wanted you, and what for." Now since this guy as I recall was a highly recruited player - you think he would know what he was talking about - having heard a lot of other pitches?

The flip side of your statement as to how recruiting has changed - some outsiders from other areas may not do so well here - whereas Butch knows South Florida recruiting - and recruiting elsewhere as I recollect.

I note that kids WILL wait their turn - for a winning program - I noted Alabama tonight was loaded at every position. And there were some South Florida players on that team as well.

So apparently - the really good ones - don't "only go where they can play right away."

We could give him a three-year contract - and let him prove what he can do.

At worst - he'll stack up some real talent - even if he did HALF of how he recruited for UM before - we'd be set up very nicely with a pretty well stocked team of real talent.
