Only 10 scheduled opponents for 2018?

I would like to see us schedule an average to below-average power 5 team from the Pac 12, Big 12, or SEC. Maybe, for example, teams like Kentucky, Oregon State, or Kansas.

If we cannot do that, I would hope, at the very least, one of these two "mystery" games is another solid G5 team, like Toledo. And for God's sake, if we're going to schedule a cupcake, can it please not be Savannah State — one of the worst Division 1AA schools.

How about a crappy Division 1 team from the Sun Belt or Conference USA, instead? Scheduling crap Division 1 teams like Old Dominion, Buffalo, and UMass are way less embarrassing than Savannah State or Bethune Cookman.

Even a Mountain West team like Wyoming, Boise State or San Diego State, or an Indy like BYU.

Arkansas State WAS on the schedule as a home game next year.

Good Replacement Teams:
Tulane
South Alabama
Rutgers
Purdue
Miami (OH) Have we ever played them?

I only mind the cupcake game as a warm-up for the actual season. Since we're starting with LSU we won't need that this year.

I think Rutgers was the school that pulled out of our home and home very recently. Doubt that’s an option

I doubt that's gonna happen. Those schools probably don't even want to play the good teams in their OWN conferences.

Agreed. In general, I would like to see us branch out and play some teams out on the West Coast. A home and home with USC at some point would be outstanding.

That’s a good point, but I guess all I’m saying is this: stop scheduling teams like Savannah State. It’s embarrassing, boring, and ridiculous. Give me a crap Division 1 team, instead.

Interesting. I thought it was already Savannah State. Guessing that changed.

The Savannah States and Bethune Cookman's of the world can probably be scheduled with only 5-6 months notice and you can basically pencil some D1AA school as one of our home games. That other open slot is a serious concern (if in fact it is not FIU). No idea what the **** the school is thinking trying to fill that game on such short notice.

Yea that's what I was wondering. A lot of the FBS schools don't really have open dates this late in the game. Hope we can find something because if I remember correctly only 1 FCS game/team counts in the grand scheme of things.

^^^^ this

Only one FCS game counts toward bowl eligibility, and I would prefer not to have a Wisconsin-esque schedule this this year. We should be challenging these kids, not finding a last resort game to play someone.

Yes. We would become the laughing stock of college football if we had a schedule with two FCS opponents on it, regardless of the fact that we open with LSU. Hope they figure this out soon.

It’s sad that the whole “Home-and-Home” tradition is dying out in favor of neutral site matchups. I understand playing a playoff contending power 5 team on the road is not ideal, but it is what made college football so exciting years ago. Going forward, I hope more teams do what Oklahoma and Ohio Taint did this year.

Who cares. We play LSU and then Florida in 2019 and then we have true home and home matchups coming up with power 5 schools.

Look at our schedule and you'll see that we play Sparty and A&M in home and homes.

I wasn’t saying we don’t. I was making the point that a lot of other teams have stopped.

I spoke to two different people in the Athletic Department today and neither of them could confirm that we are playing FIU next year.

I mean we’re going to have to play FIU at home in 2018, even though I guess they had changed it to 2019 (?).

Who can we get at this late date other than some ****** FCS team? All the other P5 & G5 teams already have their schedules set for next year, unless we luck out and some P5/G5 is in the same ****** situation we are.

Unless there’s something going on that I’m unaware of.

Scheduling Savannah St, Charleston Southern, FAMU, Bethune and those teams is total BS. Who the **** wants to go watch a 55-0 beat down.. At least schedule aG5 team that can give the team a workout for a quarter like Toledo.

Problem is that teams like Houston, Memphis, Navy, etc can beat you. Just ask LSU, with Troy.

I'm curious as to what the schedule is going to be also. Just got my season ticket renewal paperwork and I'd like to know what I'm paying for.

The assured me today that it would be 6 home games. But until I see a press release confirming that we have another game scheduled, I'm not holding my breath. Back in 2004 and 2005 we only had 11 games. Maybe thats on the table again for 2018

My rep also told me there will be 6 games, this was before I realized FIU was cancelled. I asked since we had 7 this year and he said it depends on the scheduling in advance but rotates. I certainly hope I'm not paying top dollar for 5 games, I might call him again but he probably doesn't know what the athletic department will do
