One thing I do not understand about the ACC

I can remember when the Big 12 gave their RANKED teams 5 downs to win games because wins meant money yet the ACC should recognize Miami with Clemson and FSU are the TV draws and major bowl games for big bucks and as often posted here the ACC officiating seems inversely prejudiced against Miami. How many games do we see hold after hold against our defense yet our offense gets called for minor infractions...I am not asking for 5th down "mistakes" or any real prejudice but at least keep it even and balanced officiating. Especially bad whenever Cherry did any of our games, not sure if he is still officiating but I knew whenever he did one of our games we were in trouble. Even the SEC recognizes that their top teams might need a little "help" now and then. Ranking equals big dollars, when will the ACC wake up and recognize where top revenue comes from and that those dollars add up to IMPROVED programs?

Probably because if we ended up in the ACCCG every year we would eventually get a fluke win against FSU or Clemson and then end up embarrassing the entire conf by getting blown out in the playoffs.

  1. Now is not the time for this.
  2. The ACC has always hated Miami, and always will.
    1. If you really want to understand why, here's my best explanation. The ACC, at least the original ACC, the "old guard" and in particular the "Tobacco Road Mafia" of UNC, Duke, Wake Forest, and to a slightly lesser extent, NC State and at some distance but with the very same perspective, UVA (I'm sure I've leaving someone out) can really be considered "old money southern". For lack of a better way to put it, and basically for historical accuracy, these people are descendants of plantation/land owners and have, again I am generalizing broadly here, had their wealth, prestige, and general sense of self worth passed down from generation to generation for hundreds of years. They are suspicious of change, of outsiders, and of anything and everyone that is not exactly like them. They have been bred and raised to believe in concepts of privilege and "go along to get along". They are the "genteel south". The ones who say "bless your heart" as they are stabbing you in the back and robbing you blind. They consider schools like GT, BC, VT, Miami, FSU and even to a lesser extent Clem$on as nouveau riche bastardized mongrels not worthy of dining at their table. They are, above all else, survivors, and they know that they need us, but that only makes them hate and resent us more, not less.
Hope you find this helpful and that no one finds this explanation offensive.

Miami still carries the stigma of being "thug U" just watch the refs after a Miami TD, they're like hawks on our guys whereas other teams can mock the "U" with no repercussions.

We still bring in the cash and that's all the ACC cares about, we'll finish this year having gone two seasons with every FBS game on TV. Com'on ESPN picked up Miami vs Duke?

Excellent analysis @g8rh8rMD! I was born and raised in the original 305 and have lived in the part of the country you reference for 35 years now. When I moved to where I currently reside and being of Spanish descent, I got looks like I was from another planet. As the population has become more diverse over the years and social media exploded, the "looks" have decreased considerably.

But make no mistake, the culture of which you so eloquently described is alive and well.

Call me crazy or dumb but I much rather get out of the ACC. Go to another conference or something. This acedmic bs is part of the reason we'll never be back.

We should have waited to get into the SEC. We jumped the gun going to the ACC, but I guess at the time, maybe it was best thing out there. Don't think the SEC was looking to expand at that time. We just don't fit in the ACC.

The SEC is an even worse fit from every angle, we’re basically Vanderbilt, but we have some tradition. The Big East was really the best fit, more metropolitan schools.

Are you fcking serious right now? All the problems this team has and you've zeroed in on officiating. Like if we got a few calls we'd be a good team. What exactly do you think Clemson would do to us if the ACC propped us up long enough to make the ACCCG? No amount of favorable officiating is going to keep that from being a good old fashioned *** kicking.

This is an excellent post. We do bring in money and are still a highly respected and recognized brand. The U always brings great ratings.
Also fact on the refs. Ive seen refs call unsportsmanlike on us after we put up the U while some opposing players mock it and never get a flag. Its BS

We all talk all the time about what happened to Miami. We joined the ACC, a basketball league and our football team suffered. Academics were the biggest reason. Sucks I miss being in the BE. ND was the culprit. BE from what i understand went after ND and PSU, acc catered to the Domers.

So, assuming ND decides someday to jump into the ACC in all sports. They're a CATHOLIC school. Does that then put them in our boat, but for different reasons?

I made a whole thread about it post Uva game with that bs targeting call on mike Jackson m ... you can’t blame the refs for losing you a game but they most certainly affect them and I feel like we get bent over by our refs every game and are the only team to get banged at home by our own officiating crew
