One of the things I like about Manny Diaz

Glad Diaz overheard that before Shaq developed a bad habit. Programmed robot is a good thing. Play the assignment and don't freelance. Offensive coordinators know they aren't going to trick him which affects their play calling. Once the team leader leaves his assignment to chase the football, others will follow and soon you have all 11 players freelancing. Leaving assigned gap to chase after ball is a recipe for disaster. Just have to trust teammates to make the play.

Diaz is the real deal, some fans tend to doubt him because he's not a star struck type recruiter!! He wants player's in his system that fits his scheme and for him when recruiting, it's all about a recruit's still set and ability NOT how many stars he has attached to him..

Diaz has come to MIAMI and this DEFENSE has been nastier since he has arrived.. In 2018, I expect to see this DEFENSE as one of the best in the country!! THIS MIAMI DEFENSE CAN STAND IN FRONT ANY OFFENSE IN THE COUNTRY AND HOLD THERE OWN..

The way he holds his guys accountable and have their back in the same breath... Example After one of the away games..we go meet up with the players before they load up on the bus... This particular play was stuck in my head. I see Shaq and immediately ask Shaq why on this particular play you see the ball moving away from your gap assignment ... you plug your gap anyway... I was like.. I know you have an assignment but sometimes you can't be a programmed player like a robot but deviate and make a play... it was something like that... but before Shaq could respond... Diaz chimed in... didn't know he was listening... If everyone did their assigned job then all lanes would be closed. He went on to say Shaq listens and if I had 11 Shaqs.. then my only job would be to drive the bus to the stadium...I was like did he just protect my kid from me .. a sideline heckler.... Fast forward to a couple of days ago... Linebacker meeting... the session is WHHAT NOT TO DO AS A LINEBACKER... Shaq said he was the subject of about 90 percent of the plays.. He holds his players up and holds his player down
Let’s hope he just has to drive the bus all the way to the ‘Ship. God bless you and your son!!

Exactly why as a fan we may have opinions on things this staff should change such as hire an OC, but in the end this staff is miles ahead of what we have had in the past. Teams of the last ten years would come out flat, unorganized, or just not physical. You can watch the team and the eye test is different even the energy on the sideline. So thankful for this staff including Manny D.

Really good stuff. Btw, your picture says SW...I think u used to have different be. Siap, just curious what that refers to.

I think Shaq seems like a very good student of the game which is truly old school. Diaz seems to be a good teacher and knows that Shaq is very coachable.
Good teachers know that there is always something to teach and good students always know there is more to learn.
I am glad Shaq's dad realizes that there is always a time and place to praise and protect your players and other times to teach and go into the nuances of what they can work on to get better.

I have no beef with Manny. It's the unimaginative O that gives me fits.

I don’t know. Manny drives me nuts sometimes with the unnecessary blitzing leaving the middle of the field wide open. Making complete scrubs like the Syracuse or UVA QBs look like hall of famers is hard to take sometimes.

Uknowwhat,

To be a good leader you must gain respect. Manny knows the best way to do this is praise publicly and criticize privately.

I know it's not always easy being on here as a parent, and I know you've been thanked for that many times. That said, I can't tell you how much I enjoy hearing about the program from somebody with a better view than me.

Thank you.

Syracuse's QB looked like absolute trash against us...kid went 13-41, ZERO TDs, 4 INTs, and we sacked em' 4 times....trash.

Now I do agree with you about UVA's QB, and I'll also throw Toledo, Clemson & Wisky's QBs in there...Diaz most definitely has to tighten things up on the back end.

I’ve been saying this for a while now. Especially in 3rd down it’s like he tries to outsmart himself. Just play tight coverage and let our DL get after it, no sense in creating holes in our D for no reason, especially against below average QBs

I agree with @UknowWhat, sometimes you have to let your players play off instinct.

One thing I notice with Shaq, is He's very instinctual at running down the QB on those keepers...the UNC game last year, & Him running down Kizer several times in 16' come to mind...those plays were beauties to watch.

Same time though, I can see where Poppa Shaq's coming from also, gotta listen to your coach(es).

Great story Poppa Shaq. Your son is truly an example of a player that if we had all 11working in harmony and in sync, would make for a defense that would destroy the competition. We’re getting closer by the day, and that’s a great thing.

I’ve been saying this since Diaz got here (smartest guy in the room syndrome). When you have a Joe Jackson and Garvin on the edge, let them eat. Their only focus on 3rd down should be beating the OT in front of them.

Great story though as Diaz is a cane through and through. Miami’s D is fun to watch again.
