One good aspect of this class

Clearly, we have not reeled in enough elite prospects to get us back to where we belong. Until we start consistently pulling in the McGahees, Rolles, and Wilforks of the South Florida world, and a national guy like DJ Williams each year, we will not compete with the big boys. But, this is the first class in a long time that has very few projects/reaches. Rosier (though I think he could be a player in the secondary) and Linder could be considered reaches. But the overall quality of this class is as good as we've had in years and better than most of the teams that ended up ranked at the end of last year.

Just as important, I think we struck gold at the most important position in the game. Of course any projection is speculative at this point, but BK looks legit. Dude is a prototype who also appears to be smart and savvy.

The collective talent of this class, coupled with a potential franchise QB, is very encouraging to me. With everything working against us, including the coaching deficiencies (that must be corrected), I don't know how any reasonable fan could be disappointed in this class. It's exactly the type that gets us to the point where we will regularly beat the teams we should beat. And in order to attract the elite guys, we need to do that first.

How is Linder a reach? I don't think anyone's expecting him to become a 1st round pick franchise Lt. He's going to be a solid center that starts for a few years.

Agree. Considering everything that surrounded the program from the NCAA to blow out losses and the PSU ordeal, we have been able to bring in a top 10, if not top 5 class. Bodes well for UM as it seems we are finally headed in the correct path. Golden and his staff deserve a lot of credit. If we can now improve our schemes and coaching we will definitely surprise many doubters in 2014.

I said "could," anticipating the devil's advocate, who will certainly show his face soon enough. The fact you question that characterization only reinforces my point.

Boy you sure did show me...I do agree with the rest of your points though.

I would have Hendon on my reach list but that's mostly because he is under the radar

IMO the only reaches are the following players

McCray
Rosier
Mayes

Linder is in there but OPs point stands. We are getting good three stars not kids that don't deserve Miami offers. I know it is annoying but this is something Jimbo has been good at. It's crazy cause outside of those kids mentioned in just won't want to lose any of the kids we have. Bethel was a kid I was meh about but even him, I thought he was better than Larry Hope.....

Don't see how McCray is a reach with us trying to hold off LSU for his services.

McCray doesn't even have a LSU offer, he is a plan C for them. They are just covering their bases. We are doing this with a bunch of players currently also.

well said. With recruiting classes like this one, we SHOULD beat every team on our schedule outside of FSU

Losing TV to $$$$$ changer hurts bad, but still this class is outstanding. Moten, Jenkins and the two JUCO DT give us much better inside D than we have seen in years. Moten is high end DT from top program. I wanted TV but he had to really pull himself together this year. If he goes to Pot Rogue LA, kid might go back to being fat and lazy. He should have stayed home so he could stay on the straight and narrow. Moten is very solid and should solve our DT problem. The DEs are just sick this year. Oline is off charts. Whole class is really good. Kaaya gives the second top QB recruit in a row. If one pans out and the middle of Dline firms up, we will be a different team. That is what we have been missing.

I am of the opinion that the overall talent level of this class is more than enough for a good coach to have Miami competing at a national title level. I agree, Miami missed on some elite players but I think there are enough elite and above average players to form a championship caliber roster. If Miami stacked two more successive classes with an overall talent level like this one, while obviously addressing positional needs in the process, then there would be more than talent to win a national title.

It would be great to land more of the big names, and I want that no doubt, but I don't think it should require a roster full of McGahee type talent to compete with the big boys. My point being, I just don't want Miami to be at the point where it takes a 2001 type roster to overcome coaching deficiencies. Miami should have a coach that can win with classes like these. I'm just not optimistic that this is the kind of coaching staff that can win without out-talenting opposing teams by a large margin.

We have in the past been waiting for certain players to graduate who weren't miami caliber but then we kept getting more coming in as reaches that replaced them. This def helps improve our team from an overall talent perspective and a depth perspective and end that recent cycle of non-miami roster fillers.

McCray isn't at a position of need with bringing in Smith, Harris & Jackson. (if we missed on one then maybe) Jassid said he is an elite pass rusher though so you can never have too many of them. Ideally would've preferred Nichols over Mayes & Harris over Rosier.
