One area that’s concerning

They have 4 1st rd talents on defense for this year alone. Not sure why ppl are downplaying their defense. It’s elite and better than A&M.

Ppl can get mad at urba for his comments but nothing seen on the field says maimi will score more than 14pts. It would take the cleanest and best game by the offense all year plus O$U having their worst outing.

If Miami scores 21pts they win this game.
Agree. There's a path for us to succeed enough to score 20+ points against them, but it's pretty narrow. At a minimum, we have to be able to run the ball like IU did against them. Pop an explosive run or two to the outside, and grind away inside the tackles so we get in favorable 3rd downs.

We should all be clear eyed going into the game though. It's more likely they shut our offense down than it is we put 20+ pts on the board. They're a more than 1 score favorite at a neutral site for a reason.

Have poasted about it ad nauseum, but I don't think we can win this game without running the ball effectively. Beck will need to hit some shots in the passing game too, but if we can't run the ball effectively and consistently I think we are up Schitt's Creek. Our OL (and the TEs and WRs) has to be elite run blocking.

Yeah. He’s a complete scumb&g.

And a lying douche. He’s had it in for Mario since that time about 20 years ago when mario was an assistant at UM, and shoved Urban against a pay phone in the ft myers airport, and told him to stop talking sh$t about the ‘canes. Urban nearly had his first heart attack.

BUT …. That doesn’t make him wrong about the game. In fact, I think he’s spot on.
Belief is a powerful tool, give it a shot in this scenario and see what happens.

Most is 16 against Illinois. But 6 of them were scored when the game was over. PSU scored 14 on them and that's the most non-garbage time points they have given up this year. It's wild.

They haven't trailed by more than 6 points all year, haven't trailed by more than 7 points since the first half of the PSU game last year (21.5 games ago)
OSU and Miami each give up an average of 7 points through 3 quarters.
The difference is their consistency. They haven't had 4th qtr lulls like we've had.

It's hard to compare D numbers given different schedules, so trying to level the spread sheet.
# of opponents that average less than 20 ppg vs FBS
OSU -4
Miami -3

# of opponents that average more than 30 ppg vs FBS
OSU -2
Miami -5
(UL with Isaac Brown is +30, but was not counted)

Probably the best metric:
OSU- -16.7 points under opponents average.
Miami- -14.2 points under opponents average.

The relative difference is 2.5 points per given up.

Sucks cuz thats where Beck wants to live..
And it’s a shame because Dawson said that Beck throws a consistently “catchable” deep ball. He said that Beck’s deep ball is rarely overthrown or under-thrown, it gives the WR an opportunity on a consistent basis. His hesitance and gun shyness (lack of comfortability) may have something to do with his injury still 🤷🏾‍♂️

Mario understandably wants to avoid pulling from the 2002 game but I see a lot of parallels and lessons to draw from.

The roles are reversed.

We believed the same things they belive about us right now. We had the dominant defense with 1st rounders littered around it. And we had an offense that was unstoppable with the same dominant WR in Andre Johnson.

But go back and think about what happened that day. What was the surprise? And it happened immediately, the first offensive play of the game. Their D Line came with their hair on fire 🔥 and made Dorsey shook and uncomfortable from the beginning. Our OLine got handled, not manhandled but definitely handled. Their defense was flying all over the place and they took away everything underneath, including the run but kinda left their CBs to duel with Johnson banking on Dorsey’s timing being off and his accuracy. And it worked.

Their offense was mostly horizontal, run based, dependent on one or two explosives a game, and unspectacular by playoff/postseason standards as well. But they believed and kept chopping at it. The play of their defense fueled the offense’s belief and their OLine eventually held up as well. Our offense right now is much better than OSU’s 2002 offense. If our OLine blocks ESPECIALLY the interior of Brockermeyer, Pancake, McCoy and Cooper, we win.

OSU won because of Terry Porter’s devilry. But they stayed close enough for him to pull that off by their trenches playing lights out and surprising our team.

They were counted out by the media and all metrics said they should lose as well! But then their trenches showed up and overachieved just for one night.

OSU hasn’t changed. Ohio doesn’t change. It’s the culture here to be the same everyday no matter what that is. We have to be tough on Wednesday. We have to have Blood In Our Eyes. They had nothing to lose and they played like it.

We must play in the trenches like it’s our last day on Earth. If we do, we beat them easily and won’t require a cheating late flag.

If we have no penalties, we will have no turnovers. They go hand and hand mentally. Play clean and tough. Dawson go vertical and run the ball between the Guards and Tackles.

You should be concerned. Not just for this reason. Lots of others. Frankly, I don’t see us beating these guys under any realistic scenario. They are just a better team, and that’s the way it is. 🤷‍♂️
The analytics say a 10 point dog has a 30% chance of winning. I’ll take that. A couple turnovers or big plays and game flips.

We have the best offensive line in the country and the kind of running back that can win us championships. We will be able to run on this team consistently.

Before I get into this, let me preface by saying I think our DL has an advantage and can cause chaos, especially if we keep OSU behind the chains. As for our OL vs. their DL, that’s a draw. Now, their secondary and scheme versus our QB/offense is where things get concerning. Matt Patricia is from the Belichick tree, so he’s going to take away your strength and force you to win with your weakness—like making a righty go left in basketball.

You won’t see nearly as much confusion or creativity with blitzing as A&M, but the confusion will be in the secondary. They’ll show Cover 8, Cover 6, Cover 4, and Cover 2, disguising one as another, and also use combo coverages. This is exactly what Beck struggles with: coming off the first read or not trusting what his eyes see. When the picture starts changing, Beck tends to get confused or throw picks.

Getting back to winning with your weakness—and being a Belichick protégé—I’d expect him to use a number-two corner on MT with some help over the top, maybe a bracket, then put the top cover guy on somebody like Daniels with no help. It makes things confusing for a DC trying to scheme around stopping a slot guy, since that player can be moved around, you never know where he’ll align, and he’s often off the LOS. That makes it harder to jam or disrupt the release.

The game will come down to Beck and the passing game, plain and simple. We won’t be able to line up and maul them like an undersized A&M defense. We just need to run enough to keep them off balance—at least get the attempts. Unlike @Hurricane23, I don’t like this matchup as much as the previous game, but I still see his point. There are enough areas where we have advantages, and IMO this game is very winnable. Just don’t beat ourselves—which is easier said than done.
While I'd agree he CAN struggle in his reads and trusting his eyes of further elaborate by saying what truly sets that off STARTS with pressure in passing lanes. If we can keep him upright even in those moments **** simply revert to check downs and high percentage passes. Most pivotal thing in this game is keeping him upright as often as possible. If we can keep a relatively clean pocket I go from saying I have a lot of concerns with our defensive backs in this game to saying it will be a possession game if feel good about our shot in

Texas A&M basically already showed the blueprint from taking Malachi Tony out of the passing game, the game just comes down to Beck not trying to force it to Malachi Tony and simply just take what the defense is giving him
I would LOVE for them to think that was the blueprint to taking him out of the game. However I think Patricia is way too smart to believe that. Being in a dome shows were not even gonna show up with that same approach.

I think we can block them up front . My biggest issue is guys getting separation and Beck not making the mistake . I don’t think we need a lot of points , first one to 20 likely wins it. No mistakes and just run enough to keep them off balance and respecting the threat. 3.5 -4 ypc with no turnovers could be enough.

If that holds up it would be definitely a game that keeps us in it. I have a little more concerns just because I think they're going to utilize a quick passing game and running outside. If I were pass rush can be a difference maker again in this game then yeah absolutely I see us in exactly that blueprint you're talking about. We're going to have to get creative this game though. I just really hope we're going to play press coverage. I think we'll be as fine as we can expect with Jeremiah and more than likely Tate as well even though I think Tate will be more of a factor. I'm just really hoping we can account for Jackson out of the backfield and the tight end I don't think this will be a game decided by their difference makers. I think it will come down to the secondary pieces being the tight ends, being Brandon iniss etc.
