One area that’s concerning

Haha, you could be right but I have faith based on the past 5 games we'll take our shots. We ran a dozen trick plays vs. TAMU and I think the reason we clamped down so hard the passing game is what the wind did to the Jojo pass. No wind vs. Taint.

I'll scream at the TV and relish the fact we're in this game regardless.
Yes me too. Their fans are awful. It's actually surprising how rotten they are on the socials.

I think we need to get the plays called in earlier so Beckmhas time to read the defense. This will also give him time to audible. We don’t do the offense any favors by getting play calls out late in the play clock.

I’ve always been concerned about our guys just flat out getting separation. This ain’t the ACC. This is a top 3 talent team with actual coaching
This. Toney is great but otherwise, we just don't have a lot of man-to-man beaters. I'll stay hopeful that playing in a dome will help but Mathews and Igbinosun are both NFL guys and our receivers....are not.

I’d be very surprised if CJ was able to get off in this one. Piggybacking off of cribby OSU isn’t just gonna take away option 1. They take away option 2 as well. I’ll keep saying it til I’m blue in the face. We need jojo. Ran a lazy but great route and was open at a&m for 6. He has that ability. He can do it. Gotta try it
Secret hope is going against JJ gives him some extra juice and focus. I’ve been super down on him bc of his work ethic and off field issues. But maybe this makes it click?

Forcing throws maybe he thinks it’s one coverage when it’s not. That’s why most picks happen. When I played things were different. Back then then qb was always asked what did you see ? What was the coverage? Then went over and over that on film. These days things are very dumbed down . With a lot of pre determined, half field read throws. Qb’s now are nowhere near as good with the brain game of Qb. That’s why people were so blown away by what Rivers was doing Monday , pre and post snap. That’s how quarterbacking used to be. There was as much going on pre snap than post.

It’s even worst at the HS level, a lot of these kids are just throwing where they’re told to. Pre determined . They don’t even know why they’re throwing there or the purpose of the concept . Coaching on all levels sucks and the qb play reflects it . Another reason why the scoring has slowed down.

Back to Beck he tends to get baited by coverage. Last year at UGA he threw a pick in cover 2. When the flat defender left the flat and dropped back to pick of a shot between him and the safety. Beck as a veteran qb should’ve known there’s nothing in the concept to hold that flat defender and dropping into throwing lane was possible. So yes he knew the coverage but made the wrong read.
I mean with the coverage changed defenses use it’s entirely a progression system now because you can’t reliably predict pre-snap where the ball should go. QBs HAVE to just go 1-2-3-4 in progressions to defenses that try disguise so much. Can’t ask a QB to just constantly predict correct against that. And one wrong prediction can result in extreme negative plays. Beck needs to just work the progressions. Our WRs need to get open especially intermediate to deep and make plays when given chances.

Honestly I think this game may just come down to which WRs/DBs make the plays. Who’s coming down with the contested catches. I expect both to stop the run.

I think we will have some advantages in the first couple drives - OSU will be a little surprised by our strength and quickness in the trenches, but do we capitialize on it early on? OSU will make adjustments during the game, but I think there are plays to be had early on. Use Mali as a decoy early on and get 1 on 1 with Jojo or Marion on other side of the field. A rb screen would be nice too.

Need to get run game going - and you can run lots of A gap, but run it out of pistol, run with three and four wide. Fletcher is running hot, we just need to make sure OSU is not crowding the box with 8. But I think our oline can wear on OSU in the run game.

Defensively, we have to stop run game with our front 4. HAVE TO. Would love to see Bryce get lot of 2nd/3rd down snaps and read Sayin/bracket JS.

I know they are favored by 9-10 and they have good players, but they really haven’t been challenged a whole lot. They beat Texas in an ugly game, and lost to Indiana. In between, who did they really play? We overhauled the DB room and brought in players. This is the game they were brought in for. If they do their job, Bain and Mesidor and co will have opportunities to harrass Sayin.

As I said at the beginning, when you consider that OSU hasn’t played lines as tough as ours, and Ryan Day calling plays for the first time in awhile, I think the first qtr is there for us to jump on them early.

They will throw deep early and often with Day. They are going to test OJ real early. And tempo which it seems like we struggle with sometimes.

I wouldn’t get cute early on. I’d see how the DL holds up with run game before I start blitzing or getting safeties involved . Make them drive the ball. Getting home with four would be huge.

Folks keep saying this but they had no problem in a similar situation last year: 21 days rest before beating Tennessee 41-21.
Different set of circumstances.

1. Home game.

2. Tennessee starts freshman QB

3. Senior QB for OSU

4. Chip Kelly is your OC…

We shall see with Ryan Day calling plays now after taking duties away from Hartline and Sayin going against our DL. I really like our chances defensively.

If we can get home with 4 that will change things, there are some plays to be had vs our LB's in the pass game.

I hope you are dead wrong and we roll…LOL

My concern is the defense plays soft coverage to avoid getting beat deep and Ohio St devices a game plan much like Louisville to get the ball out of Sayin's hand real quick

We’ll have to be **** near perfect on offense or the defense set us up for points . Driving the entire field against this d will be tough. We can’t have penalties or sacks
That’s why we have to be able to run on them and I believe we can. I’ve said it before they have not seen an offensive line or a thunder and lightning running back combo like we have all season. Not only do I believe we’ll see more pistol, but some more change of pace schemes in the running game. See a lot of pin and pull as well off tackle stuff with Pringle.

Just run 4-4.5 ypc and that should do the job it doesn’t have to be crazy

The next biggest question is can we get home with four and stop run with four? That allows the secondary to focus on those tools out wide.
100% we can and we’ll get home with our four versus their offensive line. Their tackles are not athletic and they’re down there starting guard. Also, their defensive line wins on power, not technique and moves, that plays right into the strength of our offensive line. I think you would agree, we have the edge on both sides of the line.
