Once you realize that Manny Diaz makes more than Mario Cristobal.....

I know this is a message board so it's by definition 50% moron and 25% trolls, but a few points of reason:

1. Mario sucked at FIU.
2. Manny was considered a great DC, knows the area intimately and with his personality can be a great face of the program.
3. Manny has had one year. Firing a coach in or after his second year is normally insane, firing one after his first year is a clown show.
4. The talent level is not what we think it is. Horrible OL and horrible QB.
5. That said, inexcusable obviously to lose to GT, FIU and LT. The players quit on each other and on Manny and that's extremely troubling.
6. But in his years of being a DC, he had no problem motivating players and was considered a player's coach.
7. The one clear disaster was Enos. They quickly moved on.
8. If we are having this conversation next year then all things are on the table.
9. Blaming the AD is dumb.
10. The culture has been the problem for 15 years. Blaming Manny is naive.

The fact that you actually typed #9, should result in an automatic lifetime ban.

you will understand how inept the BOT and current AD are.

Manny Diaz makes 3.1 mil (source https://www.miamiherald.com/sports/spt-columns-blogs/barry-jackson/article223987630.html)

Mario Cristobal makes 2.6 mil (source https://www.nbcsports.com/northwest...-major-bonus-oregon-2018-19-salaries-released)

Once you understand that Manny Diaz made Dan Enos the highest paid offensive coordinator in the county @ 1.5 mil, you will understand that no administration has done less with more than Miami (according to the article below, Pep Hamilton would have been #2 @ 1.46 mil)

I know this horse has been beaten to death; however, we have no shot under this current admin. Do yourself a favor and stop paying attention until Blake James and David Epstein are gone.
Epstein is a cancer

7. The one clear disaster is Manny. Enos did suck, but he is a convenient scapegoat. By the way, who hired Enos?
9. The AD hired Manny after a few hours of a lazy search.
10. Manny is part of the culture that is the problem.
BOT needs to hire good knowledgeable consultants next time.

Cristobal is a good coach and better than Manny Diaz today but I’m not even sure he is a top 25 option, especially when you factor in what he would cost and what it costs for him to be successful. Our fans having a hard-on for a “Miami guy” is ridiculous. PJ Fleck and his aw shucks lameness would have this program ranked in the top 10-25 overnight. Same with Paul Chryst, Chris Peterson, Kirk Ferentz etc... They consistently do better with worse athletes and lower ranked recruits than Miami.

Obviously none of the above would ever come to Miami. Plenty of better option than Cristobal that also have almost no chance of happening. Cheaper and just as good to middling as Cristobal (and also never happening) options would be Hugh Freeze and Bret Bielema.

Cristobal today is competent and has resources, he’s not some up and coming unstoppable prodigy.

Let’s assume a 50% buyout for termination not for cause. If we fire manny after next year 9.6 mill left on his deal. So we will owe 4.8 mil. I’d guess this the floor and the buyout for termination is higher.

We also have to deal with an Enos buyout and a buyout of what ever fool take that job next.

If manny wins 8 games next year there is no way this admin fired him and shells out the cash. I’d bet they do nothing if he wins 7.

You have to be a real incompetent to not win 8 with the trash schedule we have. Now we know manure fits that bill but I think he could win 8 and our mediocrity could drag on for years. We need to pray he blows the OC hire again.
answer t his question why did Blake james offer this type of contract to a totally untested HC????
WTF,Richt let us off the hook for $$$$ James pays Temple 4.5 M$ that's a firing offense in itself
what does the BOT think

To many schools get caught up in that he needs to be a "miami guy" Urban is not an UF guy he kicked -ss,Saban is not a Bama guy he kicks -ss...... hire an excellent recruiter who has ties to S.Fla HS and we'll be fine..... need a winner

Statistically speaking, which one are you? Moron or troll? (Not sure why you'd come in and start by belittling everyone you're looking to chat with)

The gist of your list is that Manny will improve but Mario will not. Sorry, not buying that. Resume versus resume, if you chose Manny you'd likely have to answer to someone.....unless you work for the worst AD in the game.
Mario inherited an experienced first round QB. That seems fairly important, no?

Moron/Troll was harsh, sorry. But the knee jerk reaction here is really frustrating. We all love the Canes and this year (and the last 15) was sad, but you don't judge a first year coach on one season.

I would agree that a coach needs a couple years in .a program before making a decision. Diaz didn’t come from outside the program he’d already been here three years. Watching the games this year he was in way over his head just because you’re a good assistant coach doesn’t guarantee you’ll make a good head coach. He was out coached in every game. If we went 0-12 but, saw improvement and player development I could accept that but there wasn’t. I think this is one of the few times you can say this was a mistake and cut our losses and move on. Maybe next season will prove me wrong but I doubt it.

Literally stopped @ ur #2 reasoning.

U def r among the 50% club. Congrats

First, Diaz was not considered a "great DC." He was a journeyman DC with mixed results, 1 really good season at UM, and a dopey chain.

Second, it's not a lack of money or poor facilities that has brought the program to it's pitiful state. It's a perfect storm of administrative ineptitude combined with BOT disinterest.

Doesn't matter who the BOT hires because they only hire people they are certain will lose -- it is what the school wants. Heck, I would be surprised it coaches out there has "Interviewed at Miami and they rejected me" on first line of their resume.

Im not going to discount Mario's success at Oregon thus far because he has some talented players on his roster that he didn't recruit.

Don't allow yourself to suffer from the trolls and morons. Simply put your stuff out here and converse with who you choose to converse with. The "Ignore" feature can be your best friend.

Mario reached almost $1M in bonuses this year as he has a very incentive-heavy contract—with reachable benchmarks. In the end, he'll make more than Manolo—and should.
