I've been saying this , McDermott is just as much liability as the other two guys
The run plays we call or counter to what we are supposed to be good at. Which is strength. Why run a zone blocking scheme with these big lumbering OL. It goes same with having LBS covering WR. Plays these dudes to their strength. The reason we struggle to pick up short yardage is because we practice at running sideways all the time. That's one thing Golden inherited that was pretty good. The OL and it's taken several steps back
That's what am saying. We suck at running straight ahead because we practice running sideways all the time. So when we need to go straight ahead for 1 or 2 we don't know who to block. Everything takes practice and knowing your assignments. The run plays we call or counter to what we are supposed to be good at. Which is strength. We've kind of sucked running the ball straight ahead as well. Very little push up the middle, and very few seams for Duke to read and react.
