On Josh Horton...

All I’ll say I’m sick and tired of this staff whiffing behind the scenes because players use us to up their bag with their current team then we chose to get outbid by them. This staff thinks they determine what a player is worth but in the real world it’s the market that makes that determination. It’s a strategy that only works when you can identify lower tier talent and develop them. Given Mario’s history here and our mediocre coaching, I’m very skeptical.
How do you expect to match everybody's offers at every position given there is a budget?

Like the saying goes everyone has a plan till their punched in the face. Time to just make sure we get the most important pieces

It is one thing to lose 10 players to the draft every year, but when you added in the portal explosion the past 2 years, it took its toll on UGA and Bama. On top of the fact, you just can't afford those loaded rosters with today's NIL. At this moment. I personally don't like UGA's O coaching hires at all. I am not a fan of OC Bobo. Without saying to much, OL Searles, WR Coley and TE Hartley all coached at Miami when Miami didn't have money. If I had to hire 1 of the 3, Hartley would be my choice. Coley and Hartley can help recruiting. If Horton stays healthy, I will be watching to see what they get from him.

Like Patterson, this move did not catch us by surprise. Horton barely played in spring and has been injured for much of his Miami tenure. He had a ton of hype coming in (from both the staff and myself) coming off his breakout senior season, and he has all the physical tools. He's one of the first guy people spot when they come to practice. Unfortunately, he's usually off to the side.

Entering Year 3, this is a situation where availability and consistency are the primary issues. I expect Miami to pursue a veteran at the 4th DT spot.
Think 🤔 it was a Mistake not taking a Chance on Horton to finally have a Healthy season & earn DT 4. He is Literally what we are looking For in our 4th DT.

He's got talent, but these are the types of players you just churn through in this era of NIL. You lose a Joshua Horton and you just get another Joshua Horton in the portal or you give your younger Joshua Horton already on the roster a chance to replace Joshua Horton. Eventually one of these versions might play well for you or you just keep churning through these types at the bottom of the roster.

Developmental talent that is injured annually in the world of NIL...we ain't paying you a half million to sit in the trainers room and wave towels, yafeelme?
