Omier injury (UPDATE: PLAYING VS DRAKE)

Coach L was on with the Sports Junkies in DC again this morning. (He was on their show again about a month ago and is close with them from his Mason days.)

Interview goes from 15:30-30:30 and is a good listen. He didn’t seem too optimistic about Norchad.

Just heard a 15 minute interview with Coach L on a Washington, DC sports talk morning show. Highlights (not that many):

- Gave kudos to our trainers who are diligently working with Norchad everyday on his rehab. Seemed to think it may be a bit much to expect he can be ready after only one week but ... today and tomorrow will tell the tale.

- Said without Omier against Duke, we had to sag back into the paint (Duke's front line had the two 7 footers), leaving their guards wide open. Duke hadn't been a good outside shooting team all year but they took full advantage in the ACC Tourney game. He liked the way we hung in but really said that "getting stops has been a season long reason why we haven't been able to put that many opponents away."

- The hosts asked L about how big his pool was in Miami. He replied his Miami residence has no pool but his place up in Lakewood Ranch up in Sarasota does. (Guess he sees a lot of Vitale -- doesn't ****ie V also live in Lakewood Ranch?). That surprised me that he doesn't consider wherever he stays in South Florida during the season his primary Florida home.

- Hosts mistakenly thought Coach L was now the "dean of ACC coaches, age-wise." Jim reminded them that Leonard Hamilton was older (they couldn't believe Ham's age). L said he had zero interest in retiring anytime soon.

Def love to see this but still cautious about him actually being able to run up and down the floor and play the way he normally plays. He's an above the rim guy. Big dunks, blocks, rebounds...not a spot up shooter. Hope he can give miami some minutes. Still so annoyed this **** happened. I had the canes making a big run in the tourney!

Lot of mixed news out there. Rothstein says he's not practicing, L doesn't sound too optimistic, but gamblers say he's going to play and he looks smooth going thru individual drills and even is dunking in practice. Hmmm
There's a lot of gamesmanship here and rightfully so. Going through a full practice and doing individual work are two different things. I think it's clear at this point that he will, at the very least, be available for Friday but minutes will be determined with how game plays out.

It's a grade 1/2 sprain, you play the mf if he can move which he can. You don't take ANY chances in the NCAA tourny. Drake will be a tough matchup even with him.
It’s pretty clearly a grade 1 sprain. If it were grade 2 he would have been in a boot Sunday.

It still has to be managed just right…
