Omar Thornton

Just to be clear, im not saying I dont think these players can't be good together. Think they are all studs and would be an elite DB room.

Im saying I don't think one of them will accept having a lesser role. You said work Bryce in as a CB to get him some burn, but then that just means one of the CBs aint gonna accept that.

Look, obviously if you can convince ppl to sacrifice, great. Im just trying to be realistic.
That makes sense. I’m thinking more of the X’s & O’s aspect of it. We have so many DBs and guys coming in that someone isn’t getting burn regardless of Perich transferring here. Outside maybe the OL, our secondary might be the deepest group on the team. Someone is going to be the odd man out.

I remember Memnon prior to this season saying that Day would never start here and I didn't agree with him but after watching him in a couple games the angles he took and the late reactions,we can't have him playing anything but special teams.
There might not be a mass exodus of DBs. But we could withstand some guys leaving. I wouldn’t kick a talented guy for probably one year of Perich. But I’d take the risk of the 3rd string NB leaving if Fitz takes his PT.

I worry about Slime,if all 4 cbs return in 26 would Slime agree to again be the 5th corner.

Agree on attrition, but like we've seen guys hurt a lot all yr. And all these extra games mean injury bug is going to hit at some point in the season.

He’s a guy I could see getting more PT. I know the reporting was he wasn’t hurt. But with how the defense played, I don’t think there was a rush to bring him into the fold this year. This is my reckless speculation, but it makes sense if you think about it.

I don’t think it’d be a hard sell imo. Damari has gotten hurt the last two years. OJ has gotten nicked twice this season. By and large we were healthy this year. So I could very well see him getting burn based on injuries alone. Not even factoring in play.

I’m not a defensive savant. But adding this kid and Perich could work. You get the in the box play from Thornton. You get deep coverage from Perich and Poyser, and can work Fitzgerald at Nickel. But it allows you to be multiple in the backend as well. Fitzgerald’s flexibility to play CB and S, gives you some crazy pre snap looks.

I could imagine a less chaotic style of what Brian Flores does.
Bryce Fitgerald had 6 ints this year playing "secopnd team'...i have no idea why yall keep saying second team when the kid plays a ton of snaps...especially in passing situations. IT DOESNT MATTER AS LONG AS HE IS PLAYING AND GETTING HIS NIL I PROMISE U. lol

I wasn’t saying that. I’m saying there’s ways to get all these dudes on the field at the same time and utilize their skill sets to the defense’s advantage.

we played all 3 this year it would be no different next year i dont think if we added Perich and another db.

Just like you it may make a guy like Day leave out but if a guy like Thornton coming in then its a net positive.
I think the Dunnigan kid may be hard to keep off the field....and then you have last class kids.

I really hope we make this one happen. Hallandale Beach kid also. And I think a multi year player. Would be a tremendous 3 safety trio with him Poyser and Bryce.

If we can lock up Thornton and Denson at nickel I’m GOOD at DB.
I'm not saying don't get a safety but I'm very bullish on the Freshman kid from Kansas

I think you can use all 3 of Poyser/Fitzgerald/Koi at Safety and Nickel and just be very diverse play to play.

But primarily Fitzgerald is the one you'd most want deep and not on the box. Poyser and Koi would be the one you want at Nickel more often.
My point was one of Koi and Thorton. You left one out of your scenario

Can Thornton play Nickel? Cant say I’ve watched a bunch of BC games this year.
i think he can. definitely not as fast as Keionte scott...but he can mix it up with tight ends...play some slot covg...he can blitz the qb because he mostly played lb in hs...and i had him at lb in youth ball.

My lbs were:

My biggest concern would be how he matches up with inside WRs. Scott has been a true menace in multiple ways. Luckily, Fitz matches up really great with inside #2s. So, we’d have some options with coverages. In the highlights I saw, this dude took some great angles. That’s a positive sign. Just didn’t see much man coverage with WRs.

YEA I dont think he did much of that. He has played on the back end then i seen him coming down...think BC used him almost like Jakobe Thomas.
