Ole Miss vs UGA Game Thread

People are ignoring some of the stupidity by Ole Miss last night.

Going for 2 early on for no reason. Thinking you can run your special teams out there late in a half with a running clock. Going for it on 4th with a direct snap and getting crushed on your side of the field.

We take advantage of those situations and win big if they do dumb crap like that against us.

Ole Miss is not good. You guys will crush them. Honestly, I really don't think it will be close. You are so much better along both lines. Have you seen Ole Miss scores? The SEC is obviously down and Ole Miss struggled all season with it. I like Chambliss. I think he is a playmaker, but I don't think it will be enough. I honestly think this has something like 38-17 written all over it. That said, I was really impressed with the Ole Miss kicker. I think the title game will be a good one, but I don't see anyone in this field on the level of Miami, tbh. Oh, for a Miami/ND rematch for the title. That would have been epic!

I totally get why everyone wanted to see the Beck vs. Georgia matchup, it makes for great cinema, but I actually think this works out better for us. What worried me most about facing Georgia is Beck going out there and being too amped up, too emotional, and making mistakes. Now, he can just go out there, stay locked in, and see Ole Miss as just another opponent in our way. Plus, Ole Miss’ defense isn’t very good so I could see our offense having a big day. I’m not worried about Chambliss because we’ve contained running QB’s all year. I don’t know how anyone else feels, but I think Georgia losing was great news for us.
I'm talking myself into it. I agree that Beck may have been too focused on "proving the doubters wrong" if we faced UGA

I think we can dominate the game against Ole Miss if we play like we did against *OSU. Continue to mix gap scheme and zone scheme runs, use our WRs as a collective (not forcing it to 10), and have Beck use his legs to keep us ahead of the chains

With our defense, that formula will win come Thursday

Watching College football live, and both guys Dvorcek and Roddy Jones were effusive in their praise for the Canes. And the two points they hammered on were their physicality and violence on both sides of the ball. And the play of Carson Beck. They said he was playing the best ball of his career right now, and his ability to manage a game. Sounds familiar right?

quarterback. Trinidad Chamblis, a 91.3 passing grade, which obviously on a stage like this against a team like the Georgia Bulldogs is elite. Didn't take any sacks. They blitzed him on more than half of his drop backs and he had a 91.7 passing grade against the Blitz. But it's almost hard to quantify how good he was. this you could argue this was the best performance by any quarterback in any game this season considering the stage considering even in the preview

all of the advantages we talked about Georgia having right they're the more physical team they've got the better defense they're better in the trenches they have a better matchup running the football and you know Kewan Lacy was a little bit better in this game 95 yards two touchdowns better in this game than the first one for sure but at the end of the day this came down to a heroic legendary effort from Trinidad Chamblis

That looked like prime Seattle 2014 Russell Wilson playing out there. And that 91.3 passing grade. Let me put it in some historical context here. Okay, first of all, against the Georgia Bulldogs, 91.3 passing grade with a minimum of 10 pass attempts in a game. That is tied for the second best passing grade that we've ever seen going back to 2015 against the Georgia Bulldogs. Tied with Kyle Trask in 2020 who got a win with the Gator over the Bulldogs. Shout out Trevor Sekma. The only passing grade higher in a single game. You could probably guess the game that it is. How about

Oh, got to be CJ Stroud

Well, let’s hope Chambliss spent all he had on that one epic performance. I would hate to think he can dial up another like that one week later.

Want to take a guess what Georgia is ranked in team sacks per game?

118th. Not a typo. Nearly dead last in cfb. Almost unbelievable a team that has put so many players into the NFL over the past few years and with a defensive HC was so unbelievably pitiful at rushing the passer. Simply put, they had zero ability to get any pressure on the QB without blitzing. Guess what that does to a defense. Leaves a lot of opportunities for explosive plays, which is how Ole Miss got a lot of its points.

A better game to look at is Oklahoma vs Ole Miss. That was a good performance against a defense that gets after the QB. So you may ask, well what went wrong there for Oklahoma- easy to answer. They are ranked 112th in rushing offense. Only 16 teams in cfb had fewer rush ys per attempt (3.54) They could not consistently move the chains and got more than half their rush yards in that game off one long TD run- a 65 yder by Xavier Robinson in the 3rd quarter. Take that one run away and they gain only 71 yds rushing (RBs only accounting for 54 yards, Mateer had the other 17). UGA got beat because they can't pressure the QB without blitzing. Oklahoma got beat because they can't run the ball and control the clock. These were not aberrations caused by anything Ole Miss did- both these teams had these problems all year. Miami hasn't had an issue running the ball or getting pressure with 4 all season. Why would it manifest now?

We didn’t run great at FSU and SMU snd at other times

In the playoffs we’ve run the way we’ve had to

Fletcher averaged 5.3 yards per carry against SMU. And Miami didn't need to run the ball against FSU since they couldn't stop anything in the air. That said, we should been able to run the ball better to close out FSU. Dawson essentially gave up trying to score pts and FSU went all in to stop the run. If we'd taken a few deep shots to keep them honest I think we end up winning by at least 3 scores.
