Old school logo

Anyone know what years we had the old logo with the silhouette of a receiver in between the U? We had it on display for the 1991 Cotton Bowl. Can’t seem to find any info on it anywhere.

I have a feeling it was only around a couple years, but since I started following football in 1991 I don’t know. I’d cop that logo on a t-shirt in a heartbeat if Adidas brought it back.

Here is a similar logo on an old UM tie I have, along with ones for Baseball and Basketball

Tie is from the 80s, post-85 I imagine since basketball is included.

The background about that logo stretches back to the seventies. When the University first started using the Split U, the rationale was that you could differentiate between sports by having a silhouette of an athlete in each U. That was eventually did away with, in favor of one unified U. I don't think it was ever that popular, it was more of a secondary logo for each sport.

Not a 100% sure, I believe it was pre-nike contract. I had a grey t-shirt with that logo when I was a kid. Mid-late 80's

I'm not a fan. Remember Jimmy Johnson talking about having just the U and nothing in the middle for branding purposes. It was either in the second 30 for 30 or a football life... Something like that.

Here's a more clear image of the silhouette WR logo from 1988 or 1989. I like it as a secondary logo, I'd never want it to be the main one.

This is the first logo I remember as a kid, I remember baseball had same logo but with a hitter in the U.

I have a Nike "Pro Swoosh Flex" hat with that logo on the back. I bought it a few years before the Adidas move. Would love to see them bring it back on apparel. Hats too small. PM if you want it (Medium 7 1/8 to 7 3/8 but fits smaller than that).

I recall this logo from when I was a small kid. I wasn’t hot on it back then nor am I today buy hey, we all got our favs. Mine is the classic U all by itself.
