OL Moves

And LSU has 2 more losses on that schedule. Hope he regrets his choice.
He doesnt strike me as a guy to give af, but I could be wrong. Wasnt feeling his vibe when we were trying to get him, but we need the talent. We need to hit the portal, and I hope we are working on some recruits.

And combined, is why I said I'd rather try that then keep getting fed the **** sandwhich of SJ at Guard. He's not good. We need to move to a different trial.

We may have done that quite a bit in practice… Or two nationally renowned OL opinions may have a strong reason to believe it won't work.

Samson has been playing bad the last couple of games. This offense line will be our Achilles year. It’s a shame we can never have all units solidified in a year. Mario and Mirabal I think over estimated this group. Should have at least got another starter in the portal (not seaton)
He was awful last night. In the past our mediocre line would hurt us but there aren’t a lot of great olines. Just disappointing that in year 5 that this is what we’re putting out there.

Why would we do that? Because Mario told us all “mass pushes ***”.

So he’s defying his own logic by continuing this SJ show.
You got me. Our starting OL should be: Jacob Hawks, Jaden Wilkerson, Demetrius Campbell, Joel Ervin, and Jackson Cantwell.

Our next four games are against above average defenses. I don't think there will be any changes, certainly not throwing Cantwell in the deep end at OT, which will just make our pass pro issues worse.

The only realistic change would be subbing 71 in for 65 at RG, but why would we do that? SJ isn't great there, but we have managed to run the ball really well with him there the last couple of games. The case for 71 at RG is 100% based on a small sample of garbage time snaps against CMU. It's not a strong case, just wishful thinking.

We need Samson and McCoy to play better when we pass than last night, Congdon to make strides in pass pro, and SJ not to fall off a cliff. We are run blocking well enough that our talented RBs are running efficiently and getting some explosive runs.

Mensah will continue to get hit and flushed from the pocket. It's just going to be a fact of life this year, regrettably.
We can’t win the natty with SJ playing guard. Will not happen. I believe in Mario but he has to know this.

Seaton wasn’t the miss, Kinsler was. But many imperfect teams have won championships. The idea that the coaches don’t know what they are doing with that lineup is a bit ludicrous to me. Cantwell obviously isn’t the answer right now, for whatever reason.
You’re right. Kinsler at guard or tackle would make the line look and probably play like it should.

What if we tried?

There are lots of good players in college football guys…The Miami Hurricanes aren't going to win every single bidding war.
Im sure they did try, but we have high expectations now so trying isn't good enough anymore.

You do whatever it takes to get it done.

Any starting guard from any P4 school would have been enough so I personally doubt they tried that hard.

I think they wanted to play their highschool evals.

The issue is that if we are having moments where we struggle with teams who have average to below average defensive lines (which has probably been the case with every team we’ve played this season) then what’s going to happen in the playoffs?

The same unless Cantwell Pickett or Ervin get to whatever marks required to get on the field. Our oline issues aren’t going to be resolved this season unless that happens. The rotation we currently see can continue to develop and get better by the playoffs but it’s still going to have the same issues for the rest of the season either way.

Who would you play there instead and what evidence do you have that the change would make it more likely we win the natty?

The assumption I am operating under is that competent coaches with a proven track record are playing the best of altogether not great options there, which is SJ. And no one has died the last two games with him playing there and we have actually run the ball great!

This. It feels like the Zaquan Patterson debate all over again.

“Our safeties suck, might as well try the young guy, he can’t be worse!”

Except he was much worse. This board certainly isn’t MORE aware of what we have and don’t have than the coaching staff.

SJ isn’t great but the “let’s just play the next guy” is just wishcasting and not based in reality.

The oline has moments of inconsistency but overall it hasn’t been bad at all this year…. it’s not elite like last year and has obvious vulnerabilities but our offense is still one of the most explosive in the country. Currently 2nd in total yards per game I think 9th in passing yards per game.

Guess that means we have no OLine problems then you're right

The problem is you’re talking about 2 teams who aren’t close to being good enough to make it to the playoffs. Are Clemson and FSU playoff caliber teams, no.

I don’t know the details of the personnel because I don’t watch practice every day. But I’m sure with all the linemen we have recruited in the last 4 years one of the bigger players have to be at least as good as SJ at guard. Now if that isn’t the case that’s a HUGE issue with Mario and Miribal’s evaluations and development.

Samson allowing a lot of pressures

Everyone saw the stanford game and just stopped paying attention to him and assumes he’s playing great lol. Mccoy has been better but he just has those dumbass pre snap penalties.

Samson is the one we need to move inside not mccoy. Samson last year in the playoffs looked like our best guard, having to move him to tackle is similar to us having to move darryl porter to nickel in 2024 because we didn’t address the rooms correctly
