OL Moves

Better than Rodriguez? He may be

Better guard than center, unfortunately he may be that as well. No idea (nor do you)
And combined, is why I said I'd rather try that then keep getting fed the **** sandwhich of SJ at Guard. He's not good. We need to move to a different trial.

Our next four games are against above average defenses. I don't think there will be any changes, certainly not throwing Cantwell in the deep end at OT, which will just make our pass pro issues worse.

The only realistic change would be subbing 71 in for 65 at RG, but why would we do that? SJ isn't great there, but we have managed to run the ball really well with him there the last couple of games. The case for 71 at RG is 100% based on a small sample of garbage time snaps against CMU. It's not a strong case, just wishful thinking.

We need Samson and McCoy to play better when we pass than last night, Congdon to make strides in pass pro, and SJ not to fall off a cliff. We are run blocking well enough that our talented RBs are running efficiently and getting some explosive runs.

Mensah will continue to get hit and flushed from the pocket. It's just going to be a fact of life this year, regrettably.

last year the OL + Marty combined wore down teams. we don't have that luxury this year (yet). Mallory + Fletch can do it, but OL deficit is large

I knew not getting Seaton would hurt us
Samson has been playing bad the last couple of games. This offense line will be our Achilles year. It’s a shame we can never have all units solidified in a year. Mario and Mirabal I think over estimated this group. Should have at least got another starter in the portal (not seaton)
i think this is the bigger thing, making it Seaton or bust in the portal was the issue. Plenty of transfer guys across P4 rn playing pretty **** well at both tackle and center, which woulda helped.

OL is bad but OC should be able to game plan an offense no matter what.

Also ever since the 2nd half of the wake forest game Mensah has had the yips, he's not playing bad but he is scared to death to get hit and he's also locking into Toney too much lately. He needs to find that dog in him and stand in the pocket and take some hits.

I just mentioned Seaton because he visited, and it was well known we were after him, we signed a back up from Georgia instead of getting a solid tackle or guard

Best guess at a solution with a long-term and Overall playoff potential higher ceiling with likely no worse of an outcome
vs the guaranteed **** sandwhich we've been getting force fed.

This **** is obvious. There was no need to TRY this when this could have always been the fall back with these exact expected results.

Did anyone think there was going to be some high ceiling outcome with SJ at Guard? lmao

Do you think this coaching staff never thought about this “solution” and never thought to try it out? They threw Cantwell into the fire all spring they know why they can’t play him right now.

It’s a fine line between letting a freshman get reps early in the season bc “the schedule is weak” and that freshman causing your QB to get injured on a blind side hit bc he’s not ready at all.

Certainly wouldn't want bad pass blocking!

(looks at the performance of our OLine this year ...... )

He clearly isn’t ready no matter the size

The oline has moments of inconsistency but overall it hasn’t been bad at all this year…. it’s not elite like last year and has obvious vulnerabilities but our offense is still one of the most explosive in the country. Currently 2nd in total yards per game I think 9th in passing yards per game.

I don’t care what anyone says. We would be better off with a combination that has SJ on the bench. Move Samson or McCoy inside and start Cantwell.

I’ve heard all the excuses about Cantwell not being ready. People said the same bull**** about Congdon and he’s probably been our best lineman since he started getting more snaps.

The issue is that if we are having moments where we struggle with teams who have average to below average defensive lines (which has probably been the case with every team we’ve played this season) then what’s going to happen in the playoffs?

We should have gotten a starting guard and perhaps a guy who could play tackle if someone got hurt and not get the QB killed. Instead we got 71 who is neither of those things. But what's done is done

Why would we do that? Because Mario told us all “mass pushes ***”.

So he’s defying his own logic by continuing this SJ show.
