OL heads... ride with zion?

This highlights one of the big problems with this coaching staff. Manny has talked a lot of smack that he hasn’t been able to back up on the field.

Remember right before the first game when the staff leaked out that everyone is gonna be surprised by Zion Nelson?

Yeah...

Pretty sure the plan was for Kennedy to start at LT and Nelson to backup or RS. Horrendous eval miss. The OL is dead last in FBS in sacks allowed. DEAD LAST. 5x national championship winners. On pace to set a record for WOAT line in the history of college football. Its not just Zion. 1 player is not responsible for the worst line ever. There is no excuse for Butch Barry. Dont care what he inherited, it should not be the worst offensive line to ever play college football (again this is not an exaggeration- Miami is dead last. Already tied # of sacks allowed with the 2018 team, which was ranked a putrid #74).

Barry should be fired immediately. Right now. Call Bedenbaugh, pay him whatever he is asking, and get a jump on 2020 recruiting.

Put the best 5 olinemen out there if they can't get it done try the next one available.every recruiting cycle both olinemen and dline needs to be a priority until the depth gets to where it needs to be.a good recruiter could sell instant playing time to these kids.

no way is Brandenburg leaving ou for another assistant job.like the Clemson oc never gonna leave for another assistant job.

If he has the potential they say, we should see improvement over the season. Have we? If not, why? Is it him or his coach?

Get those answers and you'll solve most of our O line woes.

We also need to make sure we recruit well every single year because if we're starting true freshmen on the O line, we have problems. That's one spot that benefits significantly from a year of development.

Unless it's some 5 star Ox oline definitely need a year to develop some need two

"Welcome to Costco, I love you!"
You know...I don't think I've ever seen a turnstile at Costco. Just that guy at the front who checks your card. Then there's that guy who finds you the empty banana crate so you can carry your mega cans of beans and multipacks of macaroni and cheese so you can organize them in the back of the SUV without them getting thrown everywhere.

Enos wont be here in 2 years one way or another. Bedenbaugh would be the OC in waiting. He will NEVER call plays at Oklahoma and he has said he wants to call plays. Says he is waiting for someone to give him an opportunity.

If you look at how both Eddy O and Dabo turned their programs around, it was by ditching pro style for a spread offense. Dabo waited til he was on the chopping block at the end of his 3rd year, Eddy O pulled the trigger after 1. Diaz can either learn from them or end up on the unemployment line. Fire Enos, hire a spread O OC. Bedenbaugh just happens to be the best in the biz OL coach/recruiter as well.

Honestly, there will be year-on-year improvement, anyone who played OL knows that. I think I am not alone in seeing he is not very fast with his feet. I bet he works on that and ends up halfway decent next year.

I am not sure WHAT the coaches see from him that leads them to believe he is the future, besides maybe a can-do attitude that I suspect a guy like Butch Barry likes. I would rather go with a proven commodity but you cant teach heart.

At this point we played OK enough on Friday that I am willing to let him have another go.

ive been saying all year that the most important technique for an O lineman is proper footwork and balance...... Zion looks like a cow on skates.

Zion should not be starting. It will cost us the FSU game, if he starts. The same thing that happened against UF (where their best pash rushers came through untouched on every passing down in the second half) would happen against FSU. HUGE MISTAKE. The FSU game is tremendously important for many reasons, including recruiting.

Scaife should start at LT against FSU. He will get out of his stance far quicker, actually get his hands on their pash rushers and give our QB a chance to make plays (and stay healthy). He's more experienced & better equipped to handle the big stage at this point.

I'm rooting for Zion to succeed but he simply doesn't have it today. Give him time to develop & try again next season. His confidence could also get shot, if this continues.

We have more seasoned & physically mature players who can play. The pass pro literally cannot get any worse (so there is only upside). We need a fighter at LT that will put his hands on someone & fight like **** to keep the pass rusher away from the QB.

I really hope the staff does not continue to make the mistake of trotting Zion out there in our most critical games (FSU, Duke & some others).

The fact that both Donaldson and Mallory use so little leverage while blocking makes me think their blocking issues could be S&C related. Don’t know how Feeley is training OL but the fact that Miami is only using 5 means that nearly twice that many are unplayable. Even Mahoney, who’s now a backup on a BC team that’s not doing too well, was playable.

It’s an obvious and unenlightened question, but are they squatting enough? Deeply enough? It’s nearly impossible to lose at the point of attack this consistently … yet they do.
Tetra, in addition to the really good points you made, another thing really stands out as a huge problem. the OL has very poor footwork. when you watch video and pay attention to it, as a unit the lack of proper technique and poor footwork is so noticeable that even stevie wonder could see it. there is no way to maintain good balance and leverage, which is obviously especially critical in pass blocking, when their footwork is really bad. Miami on pace to allow a record number of sacks is not surprising,

Literally has not improved at all since beginning of the season and is now just a huge bump in the road for our offense.
