My parents are not immigrants, yet my college life was as you described - worked and went to school. Took me til I was 40 to pay off my student loans from UM, but I did it. Could not agree with you an ounce more regarding the kids who throw it away. Life isn’t easy. No reason to make it more difficult. Kudos to the folks who work their azzes off to rise above. 🫡

Was that the old guy in coveralls saying the knowledge goes in your head, the skill goes in your hands, and the tool goes in the box?

this is my story, but we were political refugees from Cuba.

Sounds very familiar...though I usually ignored the guy because Apex Tech had a terrible football team...


 
I had feared that NIL would create a feeling in a lot of still-maturing kids that they had "made it" and didn't need to put the work in. It's going to create a lot of entitle-itis. Hope this kid grows up fast.

Yes, we were political refugees from same island as well. I wanted to make it a broader point that many young folks of all backgrounds could only dream of getting a full ride to a major university with all the benefits of being an athlete rubbing shoulders with fellow students, alums, boosters, coaches and even professors who could potentially help you in the future, instead of being an ungrateful, immature, a-hole.
