Wow. That’s unbelievable, especially if the other students on or off campus won’t need to sign one.

Football players aren’t the sharpest tools in the shed, but I hope those players and parents were smart enough to seek legal council to review the legality of this or any future legal implications because there is no way I or my kid would’ve signed that thing.

I think the writer partially mischaracterized it by calling it a waiver. it gives the school the legal grounds should a student not want to comply with requirements and restrictions and it informs t hem what they can expect from the school in response.
 
I have a 12U/13U 7V7 league and I been thinking to give the parents the same thing, so I wont be held accountable. Even when you play pop warner and other sports you sign paper work so the program wont get sued and end up going out of business. You know how much a parent could sue a team or organization for wrongdoing, a MISTAKE on the coach parent bc he's not a doctor? I mean its just to really save the team A.....

Is it any different than signing off on similar paperwork when you join a gym?

And yeah, if they want the football players to sign one, why not all the other students?

Say what? Of course, it is. Only football players and their parents sign it, and other students won’t.

The football players bring in about $50-100M per year, yet they’re taking all the risks (while everyone sits at home to be entertained by them) and they’re being stripped of all legal protections.

There is no way in the world I or my kid would’ve signed that thing if my son played football there.
 
Strange, you don't have to sign a pre-release for flue every year. I'm not sure why schools would be liable but I am sure they will be sued.

I don't know about "constitutional problems," but overbroad waivers and similar exculpatory clauses are often found unenforceable in various state courts. Even more so when it's executed by a parent on behalf of a minor (or a waiver executed by a minor), at least in Florida and many other jurisdictions.
